First Fulmer’s contract now Pearl’s.
Can’t a fan get a break?

You're right. It breaks my soul that somebody that brings a program back from the brink of death should be compensated for his efforts. Seriously, why the beef? Are you jealous of his new contract and this is the only way for you to vent?

Wasn't Pearl already under contract or was it a napkin?

If you had one year at your job where your production was a little sub par while the first three years were exceptional, and you were being beckoned by other companies for your service, wouldn't it make sense for your boss to offer you a little bit more incentive to stay so that he and the company could reap the benefits of your future efforts?

The next time someone advertizes a job in my line of work, can I bring in the ad and expect my boss to give me a raise? Don't get me wrong, I love what Pearl has done with bringing the fan interest to the program, but I have a problem with getting someone you know to float your name to another program and hint that you might be interested in their job just so you can turn around and get more money from the school you're at now.

Also, UT is facing laying off employees, correct? Under better general economic conditions, this likely gets passed off as par for the course, but not right now.

Let me get this straight:
Pearl and his staff have the best record in the SEC over the past four years and he's the third highest paid coach....

And you think Hamilton got manipulated for keeping Pearl for presumably under $2.5 million when he is 7-1 against the guy making $3.5 million and 2-2 against the guy making $3.7 million?

And, a school that's easier to win at and recruit to is offering $3 million?

Having talked to all parties and reported this, it seems all parties handled it all pretty responsibly.

I know I would. Either way, nothing bad has come from this. Bruce got a raise, cause he's a great coach. UT kept BP. UT is still making more money than they give BP. win-win....win

What difference does that make? Clearly the UTAD is doing just fine. If an entity is making money, why should they pretend to suffer just to make people feel better?

I'm not the biggest Pearl fan in the world, but the premise behind this thread is completely messed up IMO.

If that company shows an interest in you, and you (reportedly) have an interest in that company, and your boss doesn't want you to even consider it, because he knows how much money that company has to offer... then yes, you might be able to get a raise. Why is this anything but smart on BP's side?

News flash Cronkite, He was offered $3 mil per year. Its not like it was just some phantom myth that Memphis wanted Pearl. And it is common practice for employees of companies to re-negotiate based on outside offers.

Don't go barking at utfantilidie. He's just bringin' the heat....and if you can't take it, get out of his kitchen.

UT needs an AD more like utftid...a guy who can negotiate deals, and close 'em baby. Somebody who can evil-eye Jimmy Sexton at the negotiating table, and blind him with his razor-sharp acumen.

The part I don't get is "Can't a fan get a break?"

Do people believe that the price of a hotdog in TBA is going to triple or something?

Well, that's fine. You can run your collegiate athletic department however you see fit.

Hamilton made a choice based on the demand of Pearl. He wanted Pearl to stay. He was willing to break the piggy bank to get him to stay. That's business.

Didn't Pearl just get a raise last year?

Reverend!

And the other thing is... people sometimes forget that regular ole business is alot different than sports. What would people be saying about MH if he let BP go to MEMPHIS!? That's like having Nick Satan go to Auburn because they offered him 5 mil a year. Bama fans would be livid.

I just think its funny that people are acting like its their job to ensure that Pearl doesn't get more money. Why do they care? How does Pearl's surplus of money diminish their quality of life?

Has anyone else ever noticed how utftid always starts these ridiculous threads and never posts in them again?
