I had some vertigo this morning....was afraid to get into the garage floor today to remove the deck....daughter was mowing with it, pulled it onto the driveway, and it just stopped
I thought maybe she had put the range lever into N or something....but when I got on it and tried to engage, it took a sliver of the belt off
the sliver was there at the clutch pulley but she had gone inside already and I had nobody out there to see if the clutch pulley was turning
I think the pulley is turning or that sliver of belt would not have been up there toward the front
I'm going to take the deck off tomorrow and see. While I'm at it, I think I'll change both belts (tricky on that mower, easy to pinch off a finger)
I am thinking it is a frozen pulley somewhere, and not that clutch pulley

Hopefully it's nothing bad. Hard to guess not seeing it, but I know a worn belt will make one do that sometimes.

I could probably change the pulley myself, but I don't know about the bearing.

he came over here today and looked at it....said it's probably the belt and that the clutch pulley's tryin to turn

issue now's gonna be finding the exact belt at a decent price
this Craftsman is very picky about belts

Edit: I've had this one about 25 years. I go through this every 3-4 years with one belt or the other. But usually the belts just snap, and it's easy to figure out.

They can be expensive. We have a place down here, kinda like an indoor flea market. An older guy has ran it for years, and has a bit of everything. The bell for mine was like $80 at the couple of stores I checked, even online, but he had it for half the price.
