2024 Presidential Race

Could be. Who do you choose?

Pete or Harris?
Pete or Warren?
Pete or Newsom?
Pete or Beto?
Pete or Bernie?
Pete or Whitmer?

I've heard 2 GOP strategists in the last couple weeks name Pete as the biggest GOP concern in 24 if not Biden. I disagree with them, but I'm obviously not the only one who sees the potential.

Welcome to Jeopardy. I will take politics for $1k.

What is this list above?

Who are the dumbest among us?

Correct.

If Trump is smart, and I always thought he was until he never pivoted from candidate Trump, then he'll stop the buffoonery to give himself the best chance.

Stop the buffoonery? It's amazing how little red-state people know or understand about trump. His whole life has been a scam. He's a con man, bully, deeply corrupt and sinister gangster. Fraudulent self-promotion is his reason for being. Everything that comes out of his big and loud mouth is self-promotional bull$hit. Here is a man who was rightly impeached twice, tried to subvert an American election because his baby ego wouldn't accept losing, spent weeks lying about election fraud and in doing so did great damage to our democratic institutions, then incited an attack on the U.S. Capitol that got people killed. And that's tip of the iceberg.

And he wants to be president again! He thinks Maga want him to be president again. He wants to be America's Stalin. Oh, my. This is a man who--as president, as president--got people killed. He's a sick, mentally ill man. Period. Anybody who still listens to or likes trump should see a shrink. Seriously.

And DeSantis? He's a little mini-Trump. Another bully. Getting into fights with Disney. He had the police go around and arrest a few poor black men--men who spent some time in jail/prison, got out and mistaken thought they could still vote but, as felons, couldn't. They weren't aware of it--complete innocent mistake and DeSantis tries to pretend there's some conspiracy to commit vote fraud. He could have just had an election official send them letters--but he had the police chase them down. A-hole. Judges have thankfully let the men go. He's foolishly trying to chase the ganster's Maga constituency-- and that's going to be a problem for him.

Don't do that. You know he's better than several of those names touted as key Dem contenders. And that's been my key point in this conversation. He's not perfect by any stretch, but which Dem is clearly better?

Yeah, he’s better than about everyone on your list and that’s sad.

The supply chain issues were absolutely on him. It's literally what his dept does. He wimped out/was bought out of the last primary. He had failed at his current position and I can't understand anyone who would be inspired by him. He's a big govt, play-the-game party bureaucrat who checks a diversity box. That's what our govt has become

The supply-chain issue was a GLOBAL problem. There were serious production problems and product shortages---among them, computer chips-- that had nothing to do with transportation. Covid caused many of the problems. The Sec. of Transportation cannot wave a wand and generate increased production of computer chips and many other products. There was a MASSIVE shortage of truck drivers, partly if not mostly because truckers, unsurprisingly, are paid badly given how important and yet horrible the job of long-haul trucker is. It was obviously a huge and very complicated problem--but, please, continue to believe that one guy could have just made a couple of phone calls and fixed the problem.

This isn't about making chips or fixing shortages. My comment was about unloading cargo that had been sitting on the water for weeks. There were options to mitigate the impact and he chose petty politics. That's not what a leader does

Unfortunately, we're always presented with a bunch of turds from each party. I understand it's settling, but I try to look for the best overall package and potential. It doesn’t mean they're free of toilet water. On the GOP side I see potential in both Haley and Scott.

I didn't mean you when I mentioned the attacks. The 2020 Dem primary was eye opening. Pete was attacked by both far sides. The Bernie Bros hated him. There was actually more homophobia and racism from the far left than the far right.

It's not so much what he's done, but what his vision for America can be. He has some great ideas and he's much more moderate than you think. That said, I do respect his military service, his work as mayor, and his faith. I honestly believe he's a genuinely good man who wants the best for America. For me, that's rare with politicians. I have never claimed he is without faults.
I still haven't read anything that qualifies as inspirational. And to be honest, I have no idea what he wants for America. I know that his homosexuality is a major part of his definition of who he is, and I for one don't give a flying **** about it. I also don't want to be reminded of it every time he is in the public spotlight. I want the president to be a leader, not another bureaucrat. Pete strikes me as a small town bureaucrat that finds himself in the national spotlight primarily BECAUSE of his sexuality.

And before I get labeled a homophobe, I have no fear of homosexuals. I work with more on a given day than most VN posters see in a month or even a lifetime. I couldn't care less what they do behind closed doors. I also don't want to hear about it. Same with Pete.

Rescinded with apology.

A lot of words for "He's gay, which I have no issue with as long as it's hidden. But since I know, its a disqualifier."

It's okay you don't like gay people. We don't have to like each other. Thanks for the discourse.
Of course you would take it that way. "Hidden" is not the word I would use, but I get it. I don't care who or what the president is ****ing. (unless it is a foreign agent) It is none of my business. It is not important. Can he lead? That's all I care about. Pete's sexuality comes into almost every story about him.

Case in point is this discussion. I have asked you at least three times what about him is inspirational (your word) and still have not gotten an answer.

I have answered you twice. You ignored it. We're fine.

His vision is inspirational? His faith is inspirational? Well those are certainly unique to him... no other candidate has either of those traits. I read your responses. I didn't see anything of substance regarding what is inspirational about Pete.

And honestly I am not trying to be confrontational. I just don't get the love for this guy. He's an incompetent boob as SecTrans.

I'll say it slower. I couldn't care less about his sexuality. It is not important. It is not relevant to him being a 'leader'. But it DOES distract from incompetence.

Have a nice night.

I believe you. For the record, I never mentioned his sexuality until it was brought up. It's a nice element from a personal point of view, but has nothing to do with why I like him.

I mentioned the ability to inspire. During his campaign it was his vision for our country and the future which inspired a lot of folks to vote for him.

You guys don't like him. I understand. Many folks do like him, though. I'll also add when a person is attacked by both the far right and far left there is a good chance they're doing something right.
Did you say the same about Trump? With regard to both sides attacking him

None that I can recall. But an important caveat is he brought a lot on himself due to his antics.
Some but before he even walked down the stairs he was attacked. And then it hasn't stopped for what 6 plus years now. Seems to me your right on about being attacked by both sides...he has a lotta faults but he followed thru a lot more the most POTUS have even with his own party opposition.

Btw do you live in or near south bend?

It generally holds true. If both sides are on the attack there's a decent chance you're doing some good. Of course the alternative is you are truly horrible.

I do think Trump did some good things. They get overshadowed by his faults, though.

Oh please. Obama spent 8 years answering if he was a citizen. Then you have idiots trying to claim his wife is a man.
