Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Barnes didn’t build sh—. That was done under Pearl and still held together until Barnes arrived.

Amazing the lengths some of you sheep will go to to salivate over a guythat Texas fired and hasn’t been beyond the Sweet Sixteen in 14 friggin’ years. “We can’t do better”😂

What a joke.

You’re clueless.

I too care about our honor and integrity but I care about winning more.

I'd submit that your first clause and your second are mutually contradictory.

It's a coach's job to win. If he doesn't, he'll be replaced. But, in a university, he also has a vital role as a mentor of young men, even if that role isn't universally valued by fans and administrators.

I'd like our student-athletes to have a coach to whose guidance I'd feel comfortable entrusting my own son (speaking hypothetically -- none of my children are in danger of becoming a D1 athlete).

We’re in a small minority that care about such antiquated things as honor and integrity in major college sports.

I doubt we're as few as you think. There seem to be a sufficient number of high-caliber athletes and their parents who value the kind of program Barnes is running to keep us consistently near the peak of our historical success, and demand seems only to be increasing with each passing year.

Disappointed in the end of this regular season, but this talk of canning Barnes is premature. I might be careful about any big raises and deal in one year extensions only here for a while, if I’m Danny White, but going to the tourney, knowing we have a decent shot most years of going to the Sweet 16 (or better) is far better than being on the bubble of even making the NIT. That’s where this program was not so long ago.

1 in 7 isn’t decent

Interesting how the posters that chronically bash Barnes are saying he’s been to 1 Sweet 16 in eight years. There’s only been 6 NCAATs played and anybody expecting TN to go the first 2 years after the dumpster fire that Donnie left are very naive or simply trolls. It’s 3 of 4 Rounds of 32 or better.

14 seasons since your boy made it beyond a SS, but he’s a ‘HOF coach”, right? Yeah, right along side Guy Lewis, Ray Meyer, Dale Brown, and a bunch of other guys that solely depened on overwhelming talent.
Damn, how old are you ? Breaking out Phi Slamma Jamma's (Houston) coach, Mark Acquire and Terry Cummings (DePaul) coach, plus LSU's former coach. What's the connection ? All made one Final 4 ?

“Your boy”?

Bringing in talent to their program is the most important thing that coaches do. But I don’t expect you to understand that

You’re such a troll desperate for attention. Go back to Oklahoma.

Wrong about that, Lewis made 3 in a row, I know Dale only made one. I think Meyer only made one, too. But, not positive

Pearl set what he'd built on fire and it fell in soon thereafter. He'd also built on a shaky foundation. If you don't think Barnes built the successful program we have today then you don't think.
