I had a lot of fun at that game. We brought it tonight. The refs gave Bama their chances, but it wasn't enough. I think this team is better without JJJ and Phillips. Those two don't have the killer instincts out there. If anything they should come off the bench. The starting lineup tonight brought it, especially Aidoo. He's our anchor defensively. I really enjoyed that swat near the rim to half court in the 2nd half.
Aidoo played great and has earned more minutes. We are definitely not better without JJJ and Phillips.

Gonna miss Darnell like Trey and Cade before. Hopefully the next 5* type BA is already on the team just without the stahs. But sure wouldn't hurt if we could grab a couple in the next few years. Our offense will hum as long as our OL is competent.
Doesn't hurt putting 3 OL guys in the league in 3 years. 4 if Carvin get selected

Doesn’t matter if it is outside your control…. That’s what you get paid for…. I feel the same way about all of the teams I have coached(much lower level of course)
I agree that the coach still publicly owns the loss, but Barnes can't control a rolled ankle, a nagging shoulder that may or may not alter your shot. I have no problem with criticism. You're right, it's what we're paid for even at the HS level. My issue is the ones on here that are quick to pounce on Barnes when things go bad but you can hear a pin drop when it all clicks. Mostly on the other forums fortunately.

I think there's a fine line there.

Butch was waay to bigga control freak and it showed in how his teams responded. It was a clown show. Huepel lets his people be themselves, established boundaries, showing confidence in those around him. Also has a lot to do with surrounding yourself with good folks.
Surrounding yourself with good folks is HUGE. Very fine line. You want players to learn to be men and to handle things, but in today's society you have to teach them what stays within the framework of a team and to handle outside noise good or bad.

As a professional the coach should take the blame but give credit to the players, assistants. That doesn't mean in reality things don't happen that are beyond our control. I've always tried to defend players, keep a tight lid on information, and keep parents, media etc at arms length.

You speak as a coach in charge and were offended in your post last night. volbeast responded well to it. This is a message board of fans. Some of us actually know something about the sport. Barnes differs in how he handles players from you. He will call them out in the media at times.

Barnes and team lost by playing small ball for 5 games in a row, he won by going away from it against the top team as he had a short bench. Hopefully he learns something from it. He's not coaching out of charity, he gets paid well. As a result he gets a lot of the credit as well as the blame.

I doubt there is a person on here other than trolls who do not want him to get the monkey off his back in March. Would love to see him and the team make the FF and win a natty. But if he doesn't he is still a HOF coach in my book and glad to have him.

He did respond well. My post didn't really come off like it was intended. My issue is with the posters who would rather be right than see the teams succeed. And when it comes to basketball 99% of yall know WAY more than I do. Never worried about personal criticism but have always been protective of other coaches and players.

Talk about some falls from grace:
On Nov 14 the AP Poll was -
1. UNC
2. Gonzaga
4. UK

Gonzaga is still ranked, but they've had to climb back to 13.
UNC and UK aren't ranked. UNC's NET is 45, and UK's is 40.

On Dec 19 -
2. UConn

UConn has now dropped to 20th.

Virginia has been as high as 2 iirc, and they've dropped outside the Top 10 but have since worked back in. K State was as high as 5, then dropped out of the Top 10 and worked back up.

For all the struggles we've had, the only time we dropped out of the Top 10 was when we lost to Colorado.

Win a what?

If you have the time to post a diatribe, you have the time to type out a National Championship. Put some respect on it, millennial.

The question is how? Nothing and I mean NOTHING pointed to UT being a favorite other than it being a home game. We had back to back heartbreaking losses. Our offense had been ticking up but the defense had tailed off. Down at least one starter which turned out to be 2 and this team looked gassed. Bama unbeaten in the SEC and clearly looks to be the best team in the league and ranked #1 nationally. How do they come to us being -3? Makes one wonder if Vegas has has acquired an updated version of Gray's Sports Almanac.

Idk. . . I tried to figure it out, but couldn't find a reason. Bama should've been favored by 3-5pts, based on the past couple weeks. Even adding in home court should brought it to pk/+100.

Vegas is so good it's scary. Sure, the miss a few here and there, but generally they look like wizards with the caps they make.

I'd say they actually had Tennessee @ -5.5, but didn't set the line there, to encourage even betting. Even at -3.5 most people took Bama.

Want to brag on my son a bit and how proud I am of him. He ruptured his plantaris muscle (calf) in semi final game in November. Held him out of the state championship game unfortunately. He gave it a go, but only lasted 3 plays due to pain.
He took the down time to work on upper body, and made some big gains. 225 bench and 225 hang clean, Then was able to rip off a 4.56 40 yesterday. 15 years old, 180.
