Breaking: TX, OU Reach Agreement to Join SEC in 2024

Not going to happen.

Tennessee's 3 permanent rivals will be Bama (3 Saturday), Vandy (in-state SEC Rival), and Kentucky (most played Rival). The other 6 games will be rotational with other SEC teams. That's one tough team, one medium team and one cellar dweller.... good balance.
You don't balance with 3 games. You balance with 9. For example, Bama would have us and Auburn. Not very balanced compared to ours. The 3 games are meant to protect important games. Drop either Vandy or UK and keep UF.

LSU: Bama, UF, Ole Miss
UGA: UF, AUB, SCar
UK: Vandy, UT, SCar
SCar: UGA, UK, Arkansas
Mizzou: Arkansas, A&M, OU
Vandy: Ole Miss, UK, Miss St

Miss St: Ole Miss, Vandy, AUB
Arkansas: Mizzou, Texas, SCar
A&M: Texas, OU, Mizzou
Texas: OU, A&M, Arkansas

Another option would be:
Move Bama and Auburn to the East
Move Mizzou, Texas, OU to the West

Zero percent chance that the game isn’t played on an annual basis.

Don't bet the farm on it. If the SEC goes to four pods of 4 teams, it's very unlikely that Bama and UT will be in the same Pod.

One possible pod alignment...

West - Texas, OK, A&M, and LSU.
Central - Ole Miss, MSU, Bama, and Auburn.
East - UT, Georgia, UF, and SC.
North - Kentucky, Vandy, Arky, and Mizzou.

Here we go.

Conference realignment season is going to be crazy. Can’t wait to see our updated schedule.

It's been reported that both Tennessee and Florida have expressed a desire to not to be paired up as permanent opponents in any reconfiguration.

Plus it's hard to see the two schools in the state of Tennessee not being permanent opponents.

The north would be horrible in that scenario

I think you’ve nailed it exactly right. You got all the key ones right - and yes, losing AU vs LSU really sucks - that’s such a great rivalry - but every team is losing a tradional game - but still playing them twice in four years very much keeps the rivalry alive. And the three Vandy fans in Nashville will have to deal with UT taking over their stadium once every four years as opposed to twice.

Great work!

I’d be shocked if the SEC gave Bama Auburn, UT, and LSU as their three permanent opponents. That’s a pretty tough trio. They’ll likely get MS State. They’ve played the Bulldogs more than any other SEC opponent.

First I've heard of that. Any reasoning given?

Thanks. I think it would keep the college football feel while injecting something new into it at the same time.

I think everyone is too stuck on trying to balance a 9 game schedule with 3 rivalry games. If there aren't any divisions, there are 12 other teams (excluding the team in discussion) to balance everything out. It'll never be perfect. Sometimes teams will be good, sometimes bad, but traditionally you know what you're gonna get most of the time.
