Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

I know this season hasn’t been the best, and we all want results of the past, but I’m not giving up on Kellie yet. It’s hard to establish yourself as a coach to want players to come play for, especially to be able to compete for national championships, and winning multiples. I’m still behind Kellie, and I have to trust her and her abilities. We can’t afford another coach so soon. We need to allow her to have a couple more years to see where she takes us.

The programs of winning 5 plus companionships within a 10 year gap is no longer going to happen. The field is too competitive and players are emerging to all sorts of schools to win.

I am not convinced that Kara would have wanted the job. I think she wanted to be at a prestige school. Note, here parents did not want her to come to TN because it lacked academic status.

She was a high risk-high reward hire and the bet seems to be paying off for Duke but she does not have any NCAA results to show.

Though I like Kellie, I'm skeptical...still, Kara is not going to succeed. KJH is better IMO.

Sure it could. I imagine folks feeling the same way before Saban showed up at Bammer. Staley currently has a shot, I’d put Kimmie in that mix also.

Another reason why it’s not always good to come home. This will be how she’s remembered by most, not the 3 national titles. Look how All American from Knoxville Holly is viewed.

I have tried to see the good, but I’m done. Coach Harper has done a lot for UT and is a good ambassador for the LV program, but she can’t control the team. She’s too nice, too much of a sister. I understand it was a tall order to follow Coach Summitt, and we see what happened with Coach Warlick. I had hoped it would be different with Coach Harper, as I like her. But this soup sandwich of a team is not anywhere to the standard of a Lady Vol team- missing layups, can’t draw up a play when needed, turning balls over, playing street ball instead of running plays. There was a time when the Lady Vols had a swagger they could back up. Now they struggle with a team they should have put away a long time ago. Once Horston and Jackson leave, what’s left but a bunch of ladies who may want to play for UT, but will be outmatched when it counts? I don’t know who it would be, but surely somebody proven and worthy would love the opportunity to coach this program. It needs to happen sooner than later. GB🍊

The coach doesn’t hold the team accountable, and we don’t have a player that holds their team accountable when making stupid mistakes.

I’ve said it before as have many others: Kellie has to go. I wish it had worked out, but it’s crystal clear at this point that she is way in over her head. This team has massively underachieved and there is no reason to think next season will be better. In all likelihood, it will be much worse which is frightening to think about.

Once the season is over, Harper has to be shown the door. Hopefully DW won’t fall into the “you have to hire a former player of Pat’s” trap. Hire the best coach available regardless of where he / she played.
