Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I agree with this. I remember being shocked when I found out TN doesn't even require drivers ed to get a DL.

What?!?! Thats insane.

My 3 biggest pet peeves about driving:

1. The left lane is the PASSING LANE. Not the fast lane...fast is subjective. You are either passing folks, or not. Doesnt matter if you're running 10mph over...if someone is behind you in the PASSING LANE, get the Hell out of the way. Use turn signals so they know you're getting out of the passing lane. They might have a true emergency.

2. "Onlooker delays" You nosy rubbernecking bastards that hit your brakes and inevitably cause 3 and 4 lane interstates to become parking lots when the accident/speeding ticket/ problem is actually on the OTHER SIDE of this massive, divided thoroughfare. They are the problem. Everyones problem. They suck.

3. When 18wheeler drivers, camper towers, etc refuse to stay in the right lane on 2 lane roads like I40 is from Asheville past the Tennessee line. They ignore posted lane restrictions, i even see 18 wheelers trying to pass other 18 wheelers because they think their POS with 175*hp can manage 46mph while the other truck can only muster 45mph....ofc all the cars and trucks behind them were running 65 to 75 before we got behind these morons which EACH now have 20 cars stuck behind them.

* last I read, even Peterbilt and other expensive bigrigs only had 175 to 200hp diesels...far less than even an F250. Like half as powerful. They may have improved greatly...but still make less hp and torque than an F250, while pulling 2 or 3 times as much weight in their huge trailers. Thats why they have so many gears....and why they are slow as crap, especially uphill. No excuse for them getting in the left lane

Finalists for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2023 revealed

First year finalists are Revis, Joe Thomas, and Freeney. Good chance all three get in this time. It is a shame that Zach Thomas has not made it yet. He was better than Urlacher.

Senior finalists are Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko, Ken Riley, and Don Coryell. Coryell in my opinion should not be in. Never even won or made it to the Super Bowl as a head coach. Plus Dan Reeves was a much better coach and he is not in the Hall of Fame yet.

If someone is behind me and they have an actual emergency they need to have both blinkers flashing. Otherwise I am just going to assume they are a jack*** and they can be a little more patient and respect drivers in front of them.

Cummins X15 has between 525 and 565HP depending on setup. Paccar MX13 is between 485 and 510HP. You won't find many trucks out there under 450Hp anymore.

Nice. Thanks for update Hog. They finally caught up to the F250s etc...still pulling 2 or 3x the weight though and slow on a grade especially. Texting is by far the worst thing on the road though IMO...deadly.

With the new engine technology and auto-shifting transmissions it’s the emissions control BS holding the trucks back. Take the emissions crap off, open them up so they can breathe and trucks would be getting double the MPG and pulling hills with less than a 5mph drop off.

Yeah...thats not how that works. The passing lane is for passing, not cruising at 5mph, 10mph over or whatever arbitrary speed you feel like driving in it ... while a lone of cars full of people in more of a hurry than you backs up behind you. Like every other Right a person has in our culture, it ends
where it begins to infringe on other folks
rights...like the people behind you who are actually passing people in the passing lane. Unless the person behind you jumps up 6 feet off of your back bumper, honking, screaming and having a meltdown, you are surely the azzhole in that situation. Not the people behind you that do not want to travel at whatever arbitrary speed that you choose to travel today. Any of those lanes to the right of the passing lane are the spot for folks to cruise along at whatever speed traffic conditions allow. FWIW i usually drive about 10mph over on the interstate, which often necessitates getting in the passing lane...and i often have to get out of folks way who drive much faster because at least in NC and on 40 headed to Tennessee, people drive much faster than they did 20 years ago. Used to be rare seeing someone running 80...now i see packs of cars daily at 80mph. I have to say though, there has been no increase in accidents. They are still quite rare on an interstate. That "speed kills" BS that LEOs have been preaching for decades as a means of collecting revenue is just that....BS.

I will reply more later. But for now I will post these links. A lot of people need to slow the hell down.

Yep...my boss has a Ram 250 4wd that will outrun his Challenger in most scenarios and its on 37" tires IIRC...he lives in SC without car inspections so he deleted all that smog crap and got it remapped etc...you can watch youtube videos all day long of diesel trucks smoking fast cars. HUGE power after all the liberal treehugger BS is removed.

I agree with this i believe...logic and physics demand that in the event of an accident, a person driving 80 is more likely to die than a person driving 60mph...force=massX acceleration right? In my subjective experience though, i have not seen an increase in the number of accidents on interstates. I would be a fool to argue that these folks running 80mph everywhere they go are not risking their lives doing so. My wife is a rule follower always, and she stays in the right lane because she only intends to drive the posted limit...or less if its raining. Thats kinda the point though, if a person intends to drive 55mph on 3 lane interstate without any sharp turns etc by design...they should stay in the right lane with likeminded folks. Thus the term "passing lane". To pass the folks who drive slowly. I try to be a courteous driver...regardless. Life is too short to be angry all the time. I also enjoy going out at night or early morning on the weekends and driving my Honda 5spd manual like i stole it...but i choose to do that when others arent on the roads as not to endanger people. I have found that in life its usually really easy to be courteous to other people, and usually takes effort to be an Ahole. JMO TIFWIW

Reeves is a class act.

Revis was arguably the best corner in the league for several years. Especially in press man coverage/bump and run. He was very physical and played much like our own Eric Berry, albeit at corner rather than safety.

Move your ass over to the right lane...some of us wanna break the law for real!

You ever have one of those days driving where you must of upset the Big Guy or something?
Like this morning just a little side road and a tractor trailer is backing in a piece of equipment to a construction site and driver was directing traffic. So I met an opposing driver at that exact same time and have to stop. Could of sat there for 10 minutes and no other cars would be coming.
Then. driving to Conyers today on back roads, Some ******* was riding fast lane and side to side by slow lane for like 4-5 miles..like 12 cars trapped, Now that has to be purposeful. Luckily got past him and he still rode left lane.
Then behind a Plumber truck, a Van with several ladders, a truck with hay bales and pulling a shredder, and finally a Septic truck as I pulled into Conyers. All these trucks driving about 35 in a 45 and should be doing at least 50.
Took me about 75 minutes to go about 40 miles.

I lived in Morgan County for a bit. It was often you would get stuck behind very slow traffic from the stretch going from Joyner to Oliver Springs. It was aggravating.

Booked my Eurotrip yesterday.

Gonna spend 2 nights in London. Black Angels concert.

Then 4 days in Lisbon. Party, food, party, food.

Then 5 days in Barcelona/Madrid. Ty Segall/Fuzz concert. Tempranillo. Tapas. Spanish women.

Then another 2 nights in London to ball out on some Michelin restaurants before flying back.

It is INSANE how cheap it is to fly from place to place there. My tickets for London->Lisbon->Barcelona->London totaled at like 80 bucks.

Sounds great. I just booked a 9 night cruise for me and the misses. Your trip sounds better.

I'm terrified of cruises. Not because of the open sea.

I just weep at the idea of being stuck on a boat with the same people for that long.

No nude beaches this time? That story still makes me laugh.

I felt the same as you until we went on our first and I loved it. No topless beaches this trip, I think those days are over for us.
