Most Overrated Vol

Yeah, the issue wasn't that Tee was overrated, the issue became that Peyton was the most overrated and that Tee was actually the better qb. Which I strongly disagree with both.

It's not a knock on Tee at all, I just don't buy this extremely simplistic (and faulty) logic that because UT won an NC with Tee starting at QB, then THAT makes him a better QB, nor do I buy at all that HE is the reason they won.

I believe Troy Aikman said it best.......

"When I came to the Cowboys, they said to me, 'We brought you here to win championships'. They didn't bring me there to break statistical records, they brought me to win a championship, and as a QB, I think you need at least one to be considered truly great."

And Troy didn't win jack in college, unless you count a championship OU won while he was hurt.

Yes because Aikman is the end all expert on what constitutes a great QB. Nor does it make the logic any less simplistic.

Besides, even still you take what he says out of context. He wasn't saying just because you won a championship means you were a great QB. And Tee Martin was not a great quarterback.

Most overrated ever: Munoz

Most overrated now: Vlad Richard

Agreed on Munoz

As far as the current roster, I'd go with Gerald Jones so far. The only talk about Vlad Richard is how beastly he looks, not how great of a player he is.

3 Super Bowl rings makes him pretty easy to listen to on that subject.

Now, if you wanna say that Tee wasn't as good as Peyton, that's fine. However, Tee was an excellent college QB nonetheless, and the fact that Tee won the NC in 1 year, when Peyton couldn't do it in 4.

Now, the team, with a few exceptions, was about the same in 1997, as it was 1998.

I find it very coincidental, that the year that Peyton left, we won the NC, with a team, that don't forget, was supposed to be down. Now, to say that Tee wasn't a big part of that team is just being ignorant/different.

As is calling PM overrated simply because TN didn't win a NC while he was here.

Peyton won a super bowl on the biggest stage in football.
Tee Martin could not win a starting position in the NFL.
Peyton threw for more yardage and our offense averaged more points per game.
Tee was fortunate that the Defense was the star of 98.
Peyton had to win games by out scoring the opposition...big difference
Bottomline is if Tee was so much better then Peyton why did he not make it in the NFL.
Answer is simple Tee is not as good as Peyton at any level period.

Let me get back to the root of the argument for a second...........

I'm not saying Tee was better than Peyton. Peyton was the better QB, clearly. But, as good as most people make him out to be, should he not have won a national championship. Therefore, Peyton is overrated.

But not for other positions?

Actually not really. The QB is the looked at as the leader of the team. If the team loses, other than the head man, the QB is the one held responsible. It's not like that with other positions. Unless you do an Earnest Byner, and fumble at the 3 yard line, the other positions won't take as much heat for a loss as the QB will.

That is the dumbest reason I have ever heard. I know you were young during PM playing days but I recall numerous games where the D could not stop anyone and it was on PM to win the game.

After PM left, the defense realized they no longer had that security blanket and rose up and played lights out for most of the season. If anything it was the D who won the NC and Tee just happened to be the QB that year.

That scenario is the most logical especially when you factor in that TM never proved anything in the NFL.

So, basically, what you're argument boils down to, is using a hypothetical thought to bolster your argument.

And you think my reason is stupid? C'mon now, you gotta bring something better than that to the table.

Bold: Now, when did Peyton have to usually win the game for us? Florida, and the 1998 Orange Bowl. Did he? No.

And this is a pure college argument. Yes, Peyton did really big things in the NFL, and Tee, well, didn't.

Somebody needs to tell the morons running the Falcons that Matt Ryan is overrated. You can also throw in Jay Cutler, Jason Campbell, Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, and Carson Palmer. Those overrated losers should all be bowing at the feet of Chris Leak and begging him to teach them how to play football.

It's not as black and white as that now. Use some sense here. Is anyone really going to say that Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino. And that's not what I meant anyways.

Yeah losing to the National Champions is a sure fire sign that you're no good.

I'm not saying that Peyton is no good, even if it sounds like that. He was a great UT QB, and one of the better players we've had here. However, I simply fail to see why most Tennessee fans make him out to be some kind of football god or something. 0 National Championships in 4 years a football god does not make.

I don't see how it's all that relevant when in the years prior to Peyton's arrival we were 0 National Championships in 43 years.

Because none of our Tennessee teams in those 43 years prior weren't good enough to win an NC, with the exception of the 67 team(who won a Litkenhous NC), and maybe the 85 SugarVols.
