i except decapitation, but i understand why bama is ranked ahead of us. USCs scored 4 trillion points on us and Hooker is out. Not hard to understand, imo.

Right, but this isn’t supposed to be a power ranking. Head-to-head can’t always be decisive, obviously, but if you’re going to put UT and Bama at #5 and #6, shouldn’t our head-to-head win at least earn us the higher spot in the pecking order?

Same reason why LSU is going to Atlanta this weekend and Bama is watching on TV.

Someone said AL would go to the Sugar instead of us because they are ranked ahead of us.
With OSU saying they don't want the rose bowl, I don't think it's as cut and dry as that. The bowls get to pick who they want to a certain extent is how I understood it

Nope. They would’ve always taken UGA, Michigan, undefeated TCU, and conference champion USC over us. They would’ve tried to find a way to take 1 loss Ohio State and 2 loss LSU if they beat UGA in the championship game.

At the time it looked like we were a shoe in but it turns out it probably didn’t matter either way especially if Hooker still would’ve gotten hurt.
Well ok, I didn't realize you meant if hooker had gotten hurt still. You may be right there.

Eh. America is probably the most arrogant and entitled country when it comes to the world stage. I love her, but it is what it is. And I don't think we should eat and sleep worry about what the world thinks of us, but a bit of humility and self-awareness is generally a good thing.

An underdog latecomer telling the world what to call their favorite sport because we beat a bad team just reeks of everything the world says we are.

Idk if I agree with all of this post but this is one of the dumber chants the US fans keep doing. Call it what we want, let them call it what they want. Who gives a ****. I think the chant is mostly tongue in cheek and I don’t care what the world thinks of the US soccer team but still, just think it’s a dumb one.

So the big point is Bama has better losses... LSU and TN were both ranked, they were on the road, and both came down to the last play of the game.

Now if you only look at where the teams are that beat you were/are ranked though why isn't Penn State 6th and Bama/TN behind them? No one has better losses than to 2 of the top 5 teams in the current CFP.

But then you'd also be overlooking the fact Penn State only played 6 teams with 500 or better records and went 4-2 against them and 1 was a MAC team. So just 3-2 against P5 teams at 500 or better for the season.

TN went 6-2 against P5 schools with 500 or better records on the season.
Bama went 4-2 against P5 schools with 500 or better records on the season.
You can shout at the moon all you want, but as long as I've followed college football, bad losses trump all. I'm not saying that's how it should be, bit that's how it is. You can't have bad losses. Period.

Who has Bama beaten to be ranked so high? It's not only about Bama being ranked above Tennessee, but why is Bama ranked so high to begin with? When the answer is "because they're Bama" and has nothing to do with their actual on-field resume, that's a problem.

I'm really having withdrawal pains. No CJH pressers. No Vol Walk. No game to watch. No exciting gameday functions. I miss our Vols!!!!!! I enjoyed this season so much. Didn't want it to end. I know that recruiting and the transfer portal are in full swing, as well as the bowl prep. But it just isn't the same as a Saturday gameday. Did I mention "I MISS OUR VOLS!!!!" Haha. Have a great day everyone.

I totally get that but I don’t recall other teams getting the same treatment of a Bama or OSU when they’ve had similar scenarios. It’s corrupt even by the committee’s own criteria. There’s no way to sugar coat it. A turd is a turd and the committee’s ranking bias is sh*t.

That's the extra baffling part though...before A&M loss they had LSU and Bama ahead of us.

We lost to Georgia on the road and they dropped us 4 spots. We got blown out on the road to USC and dropped 5 spots.

Ohio State gets blown out at home and dropped 3 spots. Clemson loses to the same team that beat us at home and drops 1 spot. Alabama lost to LSU and dropped 3 spots.

Was pretty obvious we were up the creek for the CFP if we didn't win out. Went from 1st to 5th and then back to 10th. But the whole time 2 teams we beat with the same record were "better" than us and deserved to be ahead of us in the rankings. Hell they even pushed a 2 loss Oregon in front of us at one point even though they lost to Georgia by 46 points more than both of our losses combined.

I don't care about the criteria. I understand why they are ranked ahead of us from my own perspective.
So your own perspective is that name should matter more than actual games? Bama is ranked as high as they are on name alone. Not this season's accomplishments.

So let me get this straight. Ohio State is throwing a fit about going to the Rose Bowl so they can just change the order of what bowls select based on the sucknuts complaining?

Yeah. And I understand how Ohio State could think that they’re too good for the Rose Bowl. They’re about as arrogant as a program can be.

But what really shocks me is that, apparently, the Rose Bowl agrees with them.

You're dead on right and sadly the "name" really matters the most.

5th: Ohio State has two wins over a current top 25 CFP team (8th ranked Penn State/21st ranked Notre Dame)
6th: Bama has one win over a current top 25 CFP team (24th ranked Mississippi State)
8th: Penn State has no wins over a current top 25 CFP team
9th: Clemson has one win over a current top 25 CFP team (25th ranked NC State)

Orange bowl should pass on Ohio state. They are essentially admitting that the fanbase won't travel because they are disappointed. Should the orange bowl risk having an underwhelming fanbase matched vs Clemson in a game that might have such little hype that players opt out vs the orangest orange bowl of all time where the coach to one of the teams talked smack a week ago? If the bowls are managed by competent people, Ohio state would be cotton bowl bound.

Listen...the only reason I get why ya put Bama ahead of TN is because we lost Hooker.

And if they'd just say that I'd probably bitch less about the rankings.

"We've got Bama ahead of TN in these rankings because TN without Hooker isn't the same team and we don't think they're as good with him out."

100% I agree with that statement too.

Especially when you consider Ohio State and Clemson have faced each other 2 of the last 4 years in the bowl games.

They don’t want to set that precedent in case one of their preferred teams suffers a bad injury right before the playoffs. So they’ll just bulls**t everyone.
