Transfer portal discussion

Will we try to take QB Hudson Card from Texas might be a good option for backup or Starter
I think Heupel showed last year that he wasn't afraid to have a big QB battle.
Yeah, I like Card a lot actually.

I would love if he went and got him.
I still think Nico would get the job from eventually.
As it is right now, I think he wins it outright over spring and summer.

Okay. This thread is strangely addicting.

It's sort of like Old School National Signing day, but slower lol

Right??

I mean look at what Lincoln Riley did with USC this year.
He TOTALLY made the right call by leaving Norman.
Honestly, I think Jaylen Wright is a better RB than any of those guys at USC, and I would worry if they came after him.

We have to make sure our house is in order. I don't like to hear that Pearce is having to be rerecruited.
He should have played a lot more.

Agreed.

He only played 3 games this season. Had 10 tackles in that close loss vs Florida

Based on your message I don’t know if blue font was needed for sarcasm or not. I didn’t look at stats I just watched that video and looked like he could help add depth and rotational piece to LB core

What will be interesting is how many players UT may lose to the portal. That will dictate how many we look for. Speculating we could lose anywhere from 6 to 12 players off our current squad. No need to name them in this forum.

We have a coach who can be trusted to identify and develop QB talent as well as any in America. We will learn just how much faith Heupel has in the notion that one of Milton/Jackson/Iamaleava will be the man in 2023 by watching his actions with regard to QBs in the transfer portal. If he goes hard after one or more, he feels we need help. If he stands pat, he likes what we have and feels confident one or more will develop by next season. It’ll be interesting to see. Whichever path he chooses, I trust him on this front.
Would love to agree, but I can't shake knowing he had Hooker and watched him then decided to go grab Milton. Just goes to show that there are no sure things. If the portal presents a known entity at QB, I don't see how you don't make the move. No guarantees with anyone in our QB room....well... pretty sure what we have in Milton, but everyone else is an unknown.

I have no idea if they pursue or not and don’t care but I’ll just say if Juwan Mitchell is out here getting regular snaps then this dude would def help out in a big way

Bc Mitchell is a pathetic LB

I think you're right.

I'm huge on Nico. Even if he were coming in late summer, I still think he would win the job.
However' hes coming in 1/2 year earlier than that, so I'm supremely confident he will be the guy.

And then there's Jackson which im okay with being #2. So...in MY mind that means we only have 2 Qbs.

I'd love for a Hudson Card to come here and Nico have to beat him out, but Hudson becoming better because of Heupel and him becoming a top notch SEC QB

As has been well documented, Hooker did not impress anyone before the 2021 season. He was timid, refused to push the ball downfield, and held the ball taking sacks. Go back and watch the Orange & White game from that year. It's on Freak's youtube channel. That's why Heupel took Milton and ultimately started him. No one thought Milton hadn't won that job by a mile. The light came on for Hooker after the Pitt game (somewhat during it), but there was no way of knowing it would happen. I think Heupel has a better idea of what he has now.

That said, if Tennessee can land Hudson Card, they should.

He should have played a lot more.

Several coaches have already commented on having to recruit their rosters again which has to be exhausting. The positive right now is we have yet to see anyone hit the portal.

Pearce probably should have played more and it would be a non issue. Very shocked at how little we saw of him this year. Wasn’t like the guys in front of him were doing a whole lot to keep him on the sideline.

Son of a MFB!

He's a 2X All Conference WR!
Fast and great hands.

Austin Peay WR Drae McCray entered the transfer portal; in 22 games with the Govs, the Freshman All-American and All-Conference performer, has totaled 129 rec for 1,888 yards and 17 TD

I would definitely take him over Joe. Don’t get me wrong, Joe stuck around when he didn’t have to and may be a great teammate. I just don’t see him leading the current projected roster for next season to anything better than 8-4 unless we have a great defense and running game
No reason to pick one over the other. If he wants to come here, let them duke it out during camp. Milton would probably win out given his familiarity with the system, timing, and scrambling ability. But I would be down for the added competition.

He is small, but did have 12 receptions against Bama and had over 1,000 yards receiving this year. He was clearly their go-to guy, racking up >40% of AP's total passing yards on the season. For reference, Hyatt had 31% of ours.
