I still think the defense won the game. That strip sack at the end of the first half was huge. They scored 1 TD in the second off essentially a hail-mary throw and completely shut them down in OT.

They had a few big moments especially in the 1st half, but Pitt went into OT having to score a TD so I think the pressure that added helped.

The strip sack was pretty big only lead to a FG though. That's a play where it should have been a nail in the coffin if our O scores a TD there going into half. Of course the defense then let Pitt march down the field to open the 2nd half getting to our 28 and having to settle for a FG (which they thankfully missed).

But our special teams was also a big factor in that, remember Flowers muffing the punt is what lead to Pitt scoring their only TD in the second half after a 3 & out.

Maybe we need to throw in some night practices? Don't we usually practice in the morning, and that's been mentioned a few times.

I think we may be misinterpreting the Banks issue. It's more than possible that Banks had some incidents and got left at home but that it didn't tear up the team in any classical sense. It's just that our defense is so bad that not having our star MLB out there wrecks our already shaky defense. Banks cleans up safety play all the time because our guys aren't there. He's a key in our blitzes and does a ton of tackling.

IOW, he doesn't have to be a locker room cancer in any of this. It could just be a kid that screwed up and got punished like any other kid would but his absence exposed an already awful defense.
I hope you are right...I really do..but..there is no freaking way he got left off last minute after the whole week of game prep unless it was something pretty bad.

He must have done enough wrong that Heupel had no choice for future team culture and cohesion that he had to leave him behind.

I just can not believe it was over nothing.

I am super excited for the Joe Milton volume 2 show. While he might not be as efficient as HH or as slippery a runner, he can make throws that HH nor almost anyone in college football can make. He is bigger and faster. He was one of the best teammates I have seen despite losing his starting job. He loves the Big Orange and this showed by his actions and not just his words. He is now QB1 and he has earned it!

This is what I was saying yesterday. Carolina game was definitely similar to Clemson's losses to NC State and West Virginia that season
remember when Clemson had to deal with the "Clemsoning" tag for like five years?

2011 (10-4) worked their way from unranked to number 6 by Halloween, and lost 3 of their last 5 to end the season (incl. loss to rival SC). Still ended up in the Orange Bowl and got S M O K E D by WVU 70-33. "Clemsoning" is born, I think by Dan and Ty on the Solid Verbal Podcast. I remember those days and episodes vividly.

2012 (11-2) got to top 10 by the time they played FSU week 4, lost 49-37. Lost to rival SC to end the season.

2013 (11-2) got to number 3 for their week 7 game against FSU and got destroyed 51-14. Lose to SC at the end of the season.

2014 (10-3) blown out at home to UGA to start the season. Lost to FSU again early in the season. Stomped by GT late in the season. Finally overcame SC.

2015 got back inside the top 10 and a reporter actually asked Dabo about "Clemsoning"

RIP "Clemsoning" as they finished Runner Up

2016 National Champions

2017 Semi-Finalist

2018 National Champions

2019 Runner-Up

2020 Semi-Finalist

2021 back to reality

2022 probably not making it in

The point is...

It's so rarely a linear rise to the top.

Dabo and Clemson had to play ok, then good, but good wasn't good enough, to the point that the national media coined a new phrase to make fun of them. Good became better. Better became best. Now almost any program would kill for their success.

You take licks in this sport. Sometimes you're the laughing stock. Ups and downs, just like in life.

He is huge and can plow through people if he runs. I am rooting for him. He has been a great loyal VOL and team mate.
