Ive been a defender of Coach Martinez. Based on knowing him from his time at GA and AU I think he is as good as anyone at coaching DBs. However, for whatever reason he's not getting it out of these players. Could be handcuffed by scheme, could be modern offenses passing him by, could be not connecting with the players. I don't know. Neither does anyone else on here. The coaches inside the building that are paid to make those decisions will hopefully make the right ones AFTER the season. Idle threats from a bunch of keyboard gurus are useless and not helpful. My concern is that recruits and parents read this crap. Just my two cents (adjusted for inflation)

Other teams have stopped us with far less talent.

That's not how this works.

We held LSU to 13 points. Bama gave up 32 points to LSU. It's not that simple. There's always going to be fluctuations in outcomes. For example the best defenses in the country may average around 25% on 3rd down. The worst are closer to 50% or slightly worse. It doesn't take much for the best third down defense to play like the worst. A penalty here or there, a tough third down catch made by a wr, a QB breaking contain and all of a sudden you go from 2/8 (25%) to 4/8 (50%).

There's too much variance to be able to take any one game and say "look, they did this with the talent they have! Clearly their coaching is better!".

What's hilarious is your defense of the pathetic coaching. You blame it on the kids. You throw our recruiting rankings but you have no answer as to why basically every other team they've played has held them in check. Why is that?

I never defended the coaching and stated that they didn’t do a good job Saturday…. Just not sure firing them is the right choice….I don’t think Pruitt left us much talent… recruiting was hindered due to ncaa investigation is also true…. Do you feel
We were left much talent from linebackers to the secondary? I do appreciate those guys efforts though bc I feel for the most part this season that they have outplayed the sum of their overall talent.

I agree we don't know those things. But we do know that if we weren't dead even with SC in terms of talent, it would be a lot harder to lose this game. Even if we did play our worst game of the year. That's the key. We have to recruit better players on defense and right now it looks like we are doing that.

So you can use recruiting rankings to compare talent but you can't use results on the field to compare defenses. 🤔

SC:
Punted once
Never attempted a FG
Made a pedestrian QB look like Mahomes. (Again)
Scored TDs on every drive but one
Their kicker is in the training room all week rehabbing a sore leg.

There is nothing competitive about that defense. Zero, nada. It's embarrassing to all defenses to call that a defense.

it was mostly competitive all season until that game - that's my only point. I just don't think we have the talent and depth to sustain competitiveness throughout the season - Saturday proved that. Coaching played a role, certainly. But talent/depth was the bigger issue in my opinion.

A recruiting ranking isn't based on any one game or data point. You're attempting to make a comparison based off one game. It would be as ignorant as claiming our defense is better than Bama's because they gave up over 30 points to LSU and we gave up less than 14. You can't make sure bold assertions off one game

>we are in the Pac12 now

>SC is down there just south of the middle. They were so bad before they smoked us that their complete beatdown of us still has them on the line of "bad everything" and south of the "good offense" line

>Vanderbilt is way down there with the worst of the worst. We should be able to hand the ball off every play and win if we want.

I think the Vandy of the last two weeks is much better than they’ve been all season.

I also think that Milton playing could be an advantage. There’s no tape of him starting for 14 months. He’s not going to look like he did vs Pitt 2021 so Vandy will be going into this game somewhat blind defensively.

Handoff, handoff, play-action Joe Bomb, touchdown, repeat.

Our D-line has done well. I'm 50/50 on linebackers because of the scheme. We you see Banks 40 yards down field in pass coverage that's a red flag to me. The schemes are atrocious which is why our dbs struggle. Are they the most talented? No. But this staff is continually putting them in impossible situations.

Banks if he's not fired this year, he won't last but one more.
