Dude I named four and you literally said half of them had good offers. Are you insane? Then I proved why Flowers was a big get. So that’s 75% of the players named that you were wrong on.

To be fair...Flowers wasn't a big get based on his ratings which was the point.

And I'd even counter the "he was supposed to play baseball" with this, he's been in college for 5 seasons and has never flashed anything more than a warm body back there. So seems his low rated HS rating was closer to the truth. He only played his senior year of HS football and Kentucky had him locked in for Baseball, so we really didn't beat anyone out for him...that Clemson offer may not have been committable (or could have been a PWO situation). He's also arguably our worst secondary player on an awful secondary.

Wish we had kept Steele around as a DC
We would just be wanting him fired today….. remember he was the DC that was fired from Clemson after they gave up 70 points against West Virginia…. I really think UT fans live in a bubble and don’t realize what happens outside of it.

But this is just completely false. Charles, Flowers, Tank, Hadden, and Burrell we’re all recruited heavily by a lot of schools

Counting is hard apparently. That’s 5 you named. Of those five 1 was for sure highly recruited (Tank). Burrell is possibly a second.

That’s 40% not 75%

Meant to say Turnage. Also not sure why everyone is upset that we finally have a cb with some confidence. Would love to see confidence and competence, but it’s a start

Confidence without talent is as useful as an a-hole on your forehead though. I don't think chirping after every long completion you give up is showing some confidence it's showing a lack of awareness for how ****** you're playing.

I mean the only area of the defense that didn't improve from last year to this year is pass defense and that was even before South Carolina lit them up.

2021: 29.1 points allowed, 273.2 passing yards allowed, 1.8 TDs a game, 148.5 rushing yards allowed, 1.8 TDs a game, 421.7 total yards allowed
2022: 25.6 points allowed, 303.4 passing yards allowed, 2 TDs a game, 108.5 rushing yards allowed, 1.3 TDs a game, 412 total yards allowed

That tells me RG and the LBing coaches have developed and improved their defense.

And the craziest part of this is that the defense is playing a lot less plays per game now too.
2022: 73.9 plays a game
2021: 77.7 plays a game

153 first downs on pass plays this year (through 11 games)
156 first downs on pass plays last year (13 games total)

The secondary is the only area where the defense hasn't improved and actually got worse.
A lot of that was losing Alontae Taylor. He was talented and you can tell we just don't have a CB that can shut a receiver down. The only other decent defensive back Pruitt recruited bounced to OK and he has better stats than our starting safety.

Not saying he’s not better…but #2 also missed a couple games

No way he watched the game.

There's confidence and then there's confidence.

I've never understood why folks are so quick to blame the players who are largely unpaid and give the coaches who are paid millions a pass.

No one should get a pass.

But I don’t want to see it’s about the “Jimmy’s and the Joe’s” from anyone then. We should be able to play ball with classes ranked 20th. You guys just argue with fits your opinion. I applaud it too, because I do it daily.

We need better coaching, but we also need better players. Pruitt apparently didn’t hand over McDonald’s bags to DB’s other than Key Lawrence. It is staggering looking at the past 5 classes. Oh, and the next highest DB was Alontae, and guess where he is?

You guys never realize how much different just a few well placed calls make the game go.

Rattler made himself look like Mahomes. He made throws that were on wide open cushions...he also made lot of tough throws that he has been expected to make since leaving HS and hasn't. That is the reason he was a 5* and a projected 1st rounder. He has always been streaky hot...our DC let him get comfortable giving him some easy throws, and his latent talent finally took over.

He has not been that accurate all year, and he won't be again.

That's just Tennessee luck.
This is true. Rattler made some incredible throws. It was just a perfect storm of us playing our worst game on defense (which is quite the dubious accomplishment) while he had probably the best game of his college career.

Good coaches don't need the best players to field a competitive team. With an offense like the vols have, we only need 3-4 stops a game. Everyone SC has played this year has managed that. Many with much less talent than is over there now. Many with recruiting ranks far below 20. I'd venture to guess some over 50.

Heupel didn't really have the "Jimmy's and Joe's" on the offense, but he still built a Ferrari. Banks built a Ford Pinto. If Banks could have at least built a Taurus it could have gotten us where we wanted to go. Damn SCar rear-ended us and blew the whole thing up.

We are fielding a competitive team. I think VolGee4 is right, though. In order to not just field a competitive team, but a team that can perform consistently week in and week out over a 12 game schedule, absorbing injuries, while competing for championships, you need to stack elite class on top of elite class. As I watched Saturday, it became apparent that we just don't have many true dudes that could truly take over when things started to break down. We have a lot of really good Division 1 athletes that are playing well in a system, but not many game wreckers that transcend the moment. We're only getting those if we can build coaching stability. If we're cycling coaches every two years, we'll consistently be where we are today, if not worse.
