I want to be able to snow ski, waterski and wakeboard into my 80s if I choose to. I realized as I approached my 60th birthday that I had been overweight (for me, too high body fat %, not enough lean body mass). I have decided that I am leaving my fat 50s behind.
Body weight squats have been a great way for me to lose weight, gain leg strength and endurance without endangering my back. Back surgery in 1992.
Body weight squats allowed me to get in shape for a 60+ mile hiking trip in the mountains of New Mexico at the Philmont Boy Scout High Adventure Camp (with a 60 lb backpack). I did squats then with my backpack at 50 lbs. and body weight only. (Age 57.)
I have a rowing machine that I am addicted to as well.
I lift weights for upper body, but not as often as I want to.
I will not go gently into my older years. I’m going to fight, and play, and enjoy as much as I can. I have partners that tell me that they are getting too old to do the things that I do. They are all 10 years or more younger than I am! Giving up and giving in like that is how you age gracelessly. I just laugh at them. They want to fade away, fine for them. No way in Hell is that gonna happen to me. You act OLD, you get OLD.
Eff that noise.
