That is awesome. What a great motivational tool.

"Hey do you want to triple your NIL value and draft stock overnight? Want to go down in Vol history? Want to play and win in the biggest national games of the decade? Go try and top Jalin's record of 14,000 jug balls this offseason."

Leaves room for 3-6 transfers. And we will fill them. For those wondering why recruiting isn’t filled with news.
Do we know our space for this class (or were you saying we'll finish with 28-31?)

Curious how far we can go now without the 25 hard cap. Guess it also depends on how many, if any, leave/transfer by year-end...so "things are fluid" as well.

Looking at the AP Top 25 –

The table below looks at where each of the AP top 25 teams rank with respect to rushing yards per game, passing yards per game, offensive scoring per game, rushing yards allowed per game, passing yards allowed per game, and opponent scoring per game.

Obviously rankings are relative to each team’s respective schedule.

It has long been my thinking that if a team is good at something starting out the year they’re likely to be good at that for the season. Likewise if a team is not so good at something it’s unlikely that is going to change all that much over the course of the season. There are imo two primary ways a team either substantially improves or significantly regresses. Either the talent on the field changed or the coaching changed.

Our pass defense gets a lot of attention and rightly so but some of the explanations don’t seem to me to be entirely plausible. For example, it’s natural to assume that since we often jump out to leads on teams they’re force to abandon the run and go to the air. Sure that happens but it doesn’t just happen to us. It happens with Ohio State and most often with Georgia, teams that jump out to leads and force their opponents to the air. They have better pass defenses or so it would seem, relative to their schedule.

Good coaches put the players in the best position to be successful. Georgia on defense this year isn't playing all that much in their opponent's backfield. Their talent in the secondary is some of the best in the league. The old adage that the best pass defense is a good pass rush doesn't seem at the moment to be applicable to Georgia's defense this year. Anyway, obviously, scheme and philosophy have a significant impact on a unit's performance. Missouri's defense is vastly improved from last year. They replaced their coordinator on that side of the ball.

I think we’re doing the right thing in trying to recruit a lot of options for our secondary but the payoff might not come for a couple of years. Coaching is recruiting and teaching. I think we’re doing a decent job recruiting DBs, especially in the ’23 class and probably the ’24 class. If our coaches can teach, which I assume they can, then we should in the near future have a complete team in every phase. jmo.

In the meantime, against some of our more capable opponents, we’re probably going to witness some exciting and heart stopping shootouts. jmo.

Do we have an outlier that would skew our numbers?

You wanna see how controlling Heupel is with his schemes and how well Hooker executes, watch the short touchdown pass to Hyatt in the flat versus Bama. The scheme pulls the entire defense to the left. Hooker executes by giving just a little attention to the left before turning to throw to Hyatt. Hyatt goes mostly unnoticed by the defense and left basically 1on1 with a defender trying to catch up.

I didn't notice the little details in the scheme when it happened, but it's pure beauty to rewatch and see how our guys are executing and how good Heupel is at scheming plays.

*I'll see if I can find a video of the play

Noticed it in re-watching highlights. I don't ever remember a misdirection and throw to the flat in calls under Heupel before. I think we will continue to see some new wrinkles the next 2 weeks.

For 2022, you are allowed 32 if you have seven transfers. We will likely sign around 25 and look to the portal to fill glaring needs and best available. My guess is we end up around 30.

What is great for us but scary for opposing teams is that....Heupel is still evolving as a playcaller.

He wasn't actually the starting safety anymore but he was one of the most experienced guys they had and played big against us last year. Secondary depth and experience taking a hit for the dawgs
Yeah someone said their freshman already took over the spot.

Must be nice to bring in absurd talent to just play over your already great talent.

And yet we still GWTFA...and that's even nicer.
