My mother in law bought me a Smokey VI print that day from an antique store because she overheard me telling my wife about this happening at homecoming.

If what you say is true, how does it work in New York?

Major difference. I don't understand all the physics and engineering behind RF propagation but a stadium with that many people shoulder to shoulder and practically on top of each other vs a city is different. Pretty much all the buildings and offices are outfitted with wifi so that alleviates some pressure, and you have more space to put receivers to cover areas around buildings. In Neyland, you have to put those receivers inside the stadium and there's only so much space for that. Plus you have to allow for multiple carriers (Verizon, AT&T, TMobile etc). Then those receivers (or whatever they're called) can have 100% coverage of the stadium but they can only process so much data at once.

Plus, NYC has a density of 24k-30k per square mile... whereas, during a football game in Neyland, there's a density of probably 120k-ish in and around the stadium itself.

When I was in high school 2010-2014 in Roebuck, South Carolina, it wasn’t really a big deal. Pretty much everyone said it. Anyone involved in internet culture before 2016 can attest to the fact that the word had shed its hate filled past for the most part.

But we all know how ever since ‘16 we’ve been reversing 50 years of progress as fast as possible.

Smokey VI passed away from cancer. That was like the year before I got to campus. Smokey VII had to be retired because he kept biting a saxophone player in the band, lol. That was while I was there and marching in POTS. Not sure why he didn't like the guy, but he always went after the same one, lol.

Was it raining in the Duke-Miami game yesterday? Duke had 2 fumbles, Miami had 5 fumbles and 3 interceptions, and Miami also has 2 turnover on downs.

I’m not sure I have ever seen anything like that at any level above middle school

I remember the older POTS members talking about the previous Smokey, and like I said, I was there for Smokey VII.

Before this article, I didn't know Smokey VIII was sick during the NC game because he ate a hotel wash cloth.

If I'm remembering the right guy, it was a long time ago, he seemed like a decent enough person. I kind of thought he either didn't like the sound of the sax, or the guy reminded him of someone that maybe wasn't nice to him.
