How different does everyone feel if we pick up that 4th and short in the 4th quarter and run out the clock?

Obviously doesn’t discount the poor defense in the last 2 minutes.

I feel a lot better, but we should of beat them by 20+. No excuse for how lost the defense was, specifically the secondary.

I have no issue with running down the play clock and milking the game clock.. it was the right thing to do. Was a bit messy though for sure on execution. To also be perfectly fair, I liked going for it on 4th down, but I didn’t like the play call in the moment. Looking back at the replay now though.. that play call had 2 people open. If HH hits Bru, it’s a long gain. If Fant runs his route a yard or two deeper like I think he was supposed to, it’s a first down. So after reflection the play call was a good one too. If we get that play than that milking of the clock and the drive would have been perfect and we win by 11 points.
pretty much the same for me too. i just felt like you had to do something more productive on 1st down to put you in advantageous down and distance so you could start milking the clock. at that point in the game, i was less concerned about how much time each play took, and more concerned about how many plays we could run. ultimately, that's what dictates your ability to milk it, especially with as much time that was left. you get in those 3rd down or 4th down situations....let's that pucker factor creep in. but get 6, 7, 8 yards on 1st down......puts the defense on it's heels big time.

anyway, it's semantics. but we didn't get the 1st down. so, it's something that gets talked about. and i didn't understand the 3rd down defense on the prior possession when we had them backed up on the goal line.....man...we were in his face on 1st and second down...and really let 'em off the hook on that 3rd down play.

those are the only two things in the game that, from a coaching perspective, bothered me. otherwise, while i didn't like how the secondary played, i at least understood why they played they way they did, i thought the coaching overall was great, and i think the game plan overall was effective, especially on offense. i thought they did a great job of game planning, and scheming. Defensively, i thought the front 7 held it's own pretty well, the D line was very good and we were good against the run.

Ya’ll wanna heard some crazy ****?

Since the game ended, my house has been hit by lighting, cause our inground sprinkler system to blow up, and I’ve been rear-ended, probably totaling my car.

I’m doing my part over here

I can’t recall the exact sequence of plays on our last series, but there’s a fine line. You have to run the ball to keep the clock moving. So, there are only so many options. If you pass on first and get an incompletion, it’s like giving UF a timeout. It was 4th and 3, so very manageable.

In hindsight, if you watch the last 1:30, UF completed a pass with about a minute left, and their WR headed upfield instead of going out of bounds. It cost them several seconds.

that's a good point....it's all hindsight obviously, but %'s wise, hooker was having a phenominal day, and i wouldn't have been mad at a pass play early in the possession to get things going and set up an easier path to running the clock out.

but you're not wrong. potentially stopping the clock on an incompletion....well, we'd all be talking about how dumb that was and they should have run the ball.........lol.

We need a statement win at LSU.
not sure what that means?

i think TN winning games against programs like LSU, on the road, and against ranked opponents is enough of a statement on their own. i mean if we win by 3 instead of 23, are we supposed to value it less or something?

Oddly, it somehow feels more likely to make the playoffs than Atlanta. Assuming Bama is still pretty beatable and UGA a tougher out. Would need to win out the other games regardless I'd assume. Don't see UGA dropping a game to anyone else with their raggedy schedule. But, ya never know.

I think it’s simple. Win every game and split Georgia/Alabama and finish 11-1. That’ll at the very least put UT in the conversation for the playoff. The only way UT gets in is if Bama or Georgia has it’s 2nd loss in the SEC title game. I’m assuming if we split that we’d beat Bama at home and lose to Georgia on the road. All hypothetical.

I never thought I’d play this hypothetical game ever again just two years ago. Just shows how ahead of schedule our program is.

Beat Bama, lose to UGA, no SEC championship but we get the #4 position in the Playoff.

Win.
