Why weren’t better secondary players recruited in this previous class? This is on Martinez.

look at our DL. Is our DL stacked with upper tier talent compared to the rest of the SEC? No they aren’t. But our DL is the strength of our defense. That’s thanks to Rodney Garner. Coaching matters. He is the only defensive coach that’s worth his salary. Nobody has forgotten anything.

The bottom line is Banks defense made a bad QB look like the next coming of freaking Joe Burrow. That’s on Banks and Martinez. They both are not getting it done. Guess where our pass defense ranks in the SEC? Dead last. But yeah Banks and Martinez are doing just great.

Right now we don't have them so you either have to commit to stopping the run or containing the pass, but can't do.bith with out some more dudes. If we're still having these issues next year then it's time to look at Banks and his coaches.

Really? I hope you realize what the coaches have had to fight regarding negative recruiting. Every school told kids Tennessee would get bowl bans, etc cause of Cornbreads actions. There’s still alittle of it but not much. This is why Tennessee now has 4 4* DBs committed. It takes time to rebuild a defense these days. Great offensive players are everywhere. Not as easy on great defensive players.

And how do you compensate for personnel issues?

With scheme....

But you can't rush 3 when you know the other team's QB HAS to throw and expect to NOT give up big plays

When your secondary sucks (as TN's does) you HAVE to make a QB make a fast decision. Fast decisions are often bad decisions........ blitzes make the QB make fast decisions. You let 'im sit in the pocket for 6-7 seconds? Any QB will pick you apart.... NO DB can cover a WR for more than 3-4 seconds unless you're an elite DB and TN doesn't have that. AR just had a highlight reel game because of it

For some reason I can't fathom, TN's D coaches don't get that.

Right. You don’t want an argument. You just want to hand wave at inconvenient questions and declare your opinion correct.

UT has fielded one of the best offenses in college football with a similar situation. It is a drastic understatement to say they’ve overachieved.

You still haven’t explained why Banks can’t do at least as much as teams with less talent. You just want to throw the players under the bus

Nope, never have. If I ever get to Colorado Springs though I will look it up and give it a try. I enjoy an occasional good beer, but I am more of a bourbon man these days as it means more kick with fewer trips to the bathroom.:)

No one claims UTs roster is ideal. But teams with less talent and who aren’t paying their DCs over a mil are getting better or similar performance against common opponents. How can that prompt you guys to just blame the players?

1. Who’s going to be QB next year?
2. Ran the ball 3 straight times & couldn’t get a first down.
3. Let a mediocre QB who the week before couldn’t hit the side of a barn light up our secondary for over 400 yds.
4. Pi$$ poor defensive coaching. Banks should be on the hot seat. He sucked & most TN fans saw it.
