Bro, Burrell didn’t even play?? Did you watch the game? Jesus, kid is out and still throw him under the bus
Yes he was out , I never said he played but he's bad non the less...funny you came back at me insinuating I'm a dumbass, when a simple conversation could've been had. It's ok, some people have to do that to make them feel better about themselves. GO VOLS

Prior to this game, Richardson hadn’t thrown a TD, had a hard time with zone, and was beaten by KY by taking away his run lanes. Our gameplan was to overcommit to stopping the RBs and take the main lanes away from AR so he couldn’t run. The kid came out and threw the ball really well. Fl had a perfect response to a deep two zone, they ran to receivers into the deep middle, and then a third, and sometimes a back too. As always our LB in coverage couldn’t handle it, our safety had to choose between two routes and our CB’s don’t have the talent to handle one guy. I don’t like the gameplan. I don’t like that it wasn’t flexible, but this comes from Heupel too. They don’t trust our DB’s. They do trust Omari and the LB’s. Those guys played pretty well. We aren’t getting to QBs enough in standard three rush, four or sometimes five. This is a really thin team. It’s missing a secondary and a rush. You can cover one of those weaknesses, but not both. We are getting better at speed rushing outside, but that’s our one trick. Releasing Banks to blitz is high risk. CB blitzes are too. It leaves us with bringing up the star or doubling ends. Again, I don’t like a gameplan that leaves third or fourth and long so open, doesn’t create middle pressure etc, but this team will have a hole in the D no matter where we overcompensate. We don’t have DB talent or depth, the rush isn’t there in any package, and our LBs are too slow to cover crosses. It is an impossible coaching task. I also have to reluctantly say this— Napier had a great plan. He knew what we’d do. He knew he had four downs always, no matter how long. He used them. He looks like a rube, but they were ready, and using all four downs was smart chess. We suck on 3rd/4th and long. We’re lucky they didn’t have typical FL talent/depth. This defense needs a great couple of recruiting classes. I’ll judge Banks after that.
We are simpatico here. They are thin in the backend for sure. I just don’t agree with playing not to lose, on any play. I can live with mistakes at full speed and with the offense playing as aggressively as they play, the defense should be freed to play loose and aggressive, situationally. Protect the back end by pressuring the football. At the end of the day, this team is better defensively than they were last year. It’s just painful to see them force teams to play behind the chains, and then watch that hard work squandered by calling conservative plays.

I wasn’t Insulting you at all, I just don’t understand why we are talking about Warren Burrell when the kid didn’t even suit up? I don’t have a reason to make myself feel better about myself. Thanks for the concern though

My observation with Burrell was based by the last 3 games, I should've been more specific

I understand that, I just don’t get why? I didn’t understand why we were criticizing Burrell when he didn’t even play this week. I apologize for coming off as a jackass, I would just like to see more positivity for this team and all they’ve done. Have a good day buddy. Go Vols!

Despite Florida's QB having a career day, this game shouldve been put away by our offense in the last 4 minutes of the game and the final score shouldve been 38-21. Our defensive did enough for us to win. Forget that nonsense at the end. This game really wasnt as close as the final score indicated.

And to those calling for Tim Bank's job, look I'm sorry you lost money on the spread but my god shut up, just SHUT UP! You dont have a damn clue as to what youre talking about. Just zip your mouths and allow yourselves to find joy in beating Florida!

Was yelling all day about missed tackles and Richardson throwing passes he wasn't supposed to be able to make and connecting with wide open receivers.

At the end of the day, though, our defense won the game on the last play.

I'm not quite there on DC Banks...lets see what D looks like after another recruiting class or two where we bring in elite athletes to play D.

Is Banks safe or does he make changes on his staff?
No way Heupel can make a change anytime soon. You can't expect Banks to do much with the talent he has to work with on defense. It's abysmal. Average is being generous. And there's zero depth. Let's cool the jets on firing coaches. We're 4-0 with a really questionable roster. When I try to imagine what they can do with a more talented, deeper roster, I'm pretty excited for the future. My one huge concern....can we replace Hooker? Yeah, I know Nico is coming. Milton has a cannon and TJ is someone the staff loves, but none have proven they can handle things as well as Hooker. He's going to be very, very tough to replace.

STOP TRYING TO MAKE SENSE! lol..... honestly agree with a lot of your thoughts.

We were far better on 3rd down holding them to 7 of 15 attempts (46.6%) but 4th down killed us allowing 5 of 6 (83%). We need to do better here if we want to win against better opponents. Your comments about talent and depth are spot on:
1. Hadden is a liability in coverage. Seems physically gifted but lazy technique gave up some critical yards and a TD (although he wasn't the only one). He will be picked on quite a bit from here on out
2. TOP was nearly 10 min more for FL. This is the way our offense is set up and will not change. Without more depth we will continue to struggle on D late in close games. Everyone knows it.
3. Richardson made some great throws because we are not a good zone team. We are not getting in lanes and reacting to the QB and WRs in zone. Giving too much cushion to challenge a lot of the throws. We made it easy on the big guy but he also stepped up. The kid is a legitimate talent and if he continues to play at a high level he will be a great player for them. Better players (or as ours develop) will take some of these throws away.

I just rewatched the last quarter and a half of the game. As others have said we should have been more aggressive at the end of the 4th. One more first down and we win 38-21. The onside kick recovery was also a freak play. You could criticize the hands team to ensure no free runners come through but the ball bounced perfectly for UF; really well done.

I am glad we won. Anyone calling for Banks head or calling our D trash needs a reality check and you did a nice job outlining why. We built a big enough lead to overcome mistakes and got the W. Room for improvement? Absolutely. Just don't be delusional that we are "back" and the rebuild is in the review mirror. This is a work in progress and you can start calling for peoples heads if this is still a problem in 2 years.

As the late and great Drill Sergeant Hulka once said: "Lighten Up Francis."

Go Vols!

It’s about matchups. The D won the Pittsburgh game, and the Florida game plan was to limit the running game and eliminate play action deep balls. That part worked.

Richardson scrambled enough that we chose to play zone and he was surprisingly accurate. Zone is clearly not our strength. Florida’s OL is actually pretty good, which is why Mincey transferred. So without a consistent rush with 4, we had problems. I do see #19 Josephs making plays and his PT will increase once he improves his technique.

The bye will help from a health and personnel standpoint.

…..is terrible. But thank goodness for the win! Go Vols!

AR15 was not a passing threat but was a known running threat. So they over played the QB run at the expense of the pass. The problem was AR15 did the unexpected and completed so passes against a soft zone. Burrell was out (Vols best tackler of the DBs) and guys went for the strip instead of the tackle(with 2 guys there 1 needed to focus on the tackle). The Vols were in control of the game until they decided to run clock instead of score with 4:40 left in the game. And the D did get the game sealing Int.

This was a plan to force AR15 to beat the Vols with his arm and it worked. AR15 threw 44 passes against a soft zone while under pressure all night. He completed 24 at a modest 10 yards per attempt with 2 TDs and an INT. And the front seven held him to 3.6 yards per carry. The plan worked. The Vols celebrated a bit early. If the O runs it’s normal set up 17 with under 5 minutes to play they go up 25 and Florida gets the ball with 1-3 minutes left. The defensive plan worked.

Milton gets first crack. Nico needs to put on weight, and I would not be excited if he starts immediately. But there are 3 legit options at least.

Banks seemed to have the defense in the right calls to make plays yesterday just none of the players made very many. I think he is ok with better talent. Your going to need players that can pressure the passer. You give most QB's the time the Florida guy had yesterday they can make plays and he was far better than he has been all season yesterday.

Cut the man a break he is dealing with the cards he was dealt. If in 2 more years defense hasnt improved then yes he would be the problem. Let them recruit for a couple more years geez.

We could use some more horses but his conservatism put us in that situation. 38-21 and he handed them 2 TD's with little resistance.
All true, but at least someone realized the ”safe” prevent D wasn’t working and made the adjustment. Bringing the pressure and the end is what forced the bad throw and secured the win.
I’m just we turned a corner here, not just because we beat UF, but because shut them down on that last play of the game. We’ve been beaten on last play miracles (twice on 63 yard TDS) before by them, I’m glad when we had an answer this time!

The last four/five minutes had me yelling ‘what is going on?!’ But they won, and these coaches seem to all gel and trust each other, at times the Defense looks really impressive and aggressive, and sometimes WTH 🤦‍♀️, but I think these defensive coaches have a lot of potential together, if they didn’t then we wouldn’t see these flashes of really, really good defensive play at times.. maybe I’m just not seeing the logic in firing anyone… I’m sure someone will ‘educate’ me .. lol

Good post. We all knew we had no defense before the season started.

I think the best way to help Joe Milton will be for other units to improve. Tight ends, Running backs, and Defense overall. We need some help in the transfer portal.

Calling for a replacement of a coach after starting undefeated and two wins over top 25 teams? I'll pass. Run defense was amazing yesterday! D made 3 massive game changing plays yesterday and it was all we needed. Brent vrables just got toasted by K state yesterday and hes a defensive genius. These things happen in cfb, especially in rivalry games
