By years end he and Ced are going to be absolutely dominant. I would throw 90 % of my passes to he and McCoy. I love the Hyatt but he’s a waife and can’t get any YAC whatsoever. And he’s not playing the position to go deep.
He needs a slant or two or at least a well thrown screen. He isn't being set up well for YAC in his defense. He's on comeback possession routes and screens 3 feet over his head.

I know. Two games. I just think he looks off and not nearly as sharp or calm as last year.

Forcing a lot. Over throwing. Missing high. Seems really anxious.

I just wonder if the best hooker we see was last year’s version.

Hooker definitely isn’t in peak 2021 form right now. The stats may be fine but the eyes don’t lie. I think his rhythm is just a bit off and will improve as we play more games. We’ll see how the next two games go before worrying too much.

He's also about the least "shifty" guy I've ever seen at WR lol. Feels like he would absolutely feast on slants, like you said.

Checker Neyland is, and always will be, one of the coolest sights in college sports. But I'd kinda like to retire it for a year or two.

Or shake it up... black and orange Halloween checkerboard with Dark Mode unis? Cmon y'all know that would be fire.

That's exactly what I was thinking the other day. Would be really cool to see.

If Hooker ever learns how to throw over the middle of the field we will be unstoppable. I gotta believe Florida is going to roll the cover two safeties to the edges and dare Hooker to throw over the middle.

I watched the first half again last night to specifically watch 4. And I have to say, he did appear to do better than I thought. He only got beat once bad, but every corner gets beat time to time. They converted two long down and distances, but it appears we are in zone and he is covering the sideline and bails early to not get beat over the top. Both times the receiver curled or went inside. I have to believe a safety is suppose to come up and help. I’m starting to wonder if we are rolling flowers and playing for a turnover by crowding one side and the middle. They just happen to hit the right receiver with the right play call. In press man coverage, Burrell was very good. He didn’t seem to be beat any time we were in press man and got his hands on the receiver early. The long run was a terrible angle by Tank and the TE hurdle was a bad tackle by Flowers. But you take away those two plays and the defense was really good.
This is why I asked the question I asked about whether or not it's really the DBs are bad or if it was on the coverages being called. I feel like we may be playing too much zone. I don't like the cushion receivers seem to get.

Nope, not at all. I think he is worried by all the hype he is receiving. Trying to live up to it rather than just playing within himself.

Hopefully the coaching staff sees it and is correcting it this week.
Bingo^

We already had knowledge of this. One reason he didn't get the start last year was because he wasn't sharp in practice, and he wasn't sharp because he put a lot of pressure on himself. When he lost the job he had some closure and resolved to just having fun (also because Golesh watched him own everyone on a basketball court and saw how much fun he was having and told him to play football like that).

So when he got the job he was loose and was focused on having fun.

Big season. Big offseason hype. Fringe Heisman candidate in preseason. High expectations around the program. Who wants to bet he's looking rusty because he's anxious again? 1 loss should cure that.

Not possible! He was the savior of Tennessee that was ran out of town before even getting in town by a bunch of redneck hillbilly twitter mercenaries.

Just look at how his name is mentioned for every big job that...........

Oh, wait.......... Nevermind
No lies detected

On the TE TD I believe J.Banks was supposed to drop back in coverage and follow the TE but he wavered and stayed spying the QB. Maybe he thought he had help/was supposed to have help.

I don't want to lose.

Just being honest, when that TE hurdled Flowers, I was impressed. Give that young man his credit. That was a heck of a move.

Why do we have to lose to fix it. If we can see it, I’m sure the coaching staff can too.

One of those plays Banks was in a choke hold/head lock and couldn’t get there 🤣 no flags though
No, I just rewatched it. They had trips on the right, Banks was supposed to take the TE down the sideline. He bit on the flat, but the corner was already marking that guy. Left the TE wide open over his head. Just a mistake on Banks' part in coverage.

While I agree, I think we are blitzing both linebackers too much and leaving The DBs to cover a lot of space. Wish they would only blitz Beasley and keep Banks in the middle more. That seems to work well. The zone defense call on fourth down when Walker had the big sack was played perfectly.
