I gave you a like, but our LBs played awesome. How many passes did Banks get a hand on? The defensive staff saw a low trajectory passing arc from Slovis and had Banks shadow him. Beasley was a heat seeking missile for most of the game.
I came away from the game just about ecstatic with our defense. The obvious development by our players and coaches. The fact that our defensive cosching staff had an actual game plan for Pitt’s strengths. They also modified the game plan in game with notable improvement in the defensive play as the game went on.
When was the last time Tennessee had that level of defensive coaching? The answer? A long damn time ago.
Delicious data3rd down defense –
Throughout the offseason both Josh Heupel and Tim Banks indicated that 3rd down defense (3rd and long specifically) was something that we were working to improve.
Last year we allowed Pittsburgh to convert on 40% of their 3rd down attempts against us in Neyland.
This year Pittsburgh converted 41.67% of its 3rd downs against West Virginia at home. Also at home, they converted 22.22% against us, putting us at #1 in the conference for 3rd down defense against a power 5 opponent through week 2.
It's early and just the first of nine power 5 opponents but maybe it's a good sign.

I would like to know how he feels since the ass whooping they received yesterday. Gotta be the biggest egg to face in recent memory.
