The important

Tennessee 34 Pitt 27

Game MVP

I am a little torn on this one, but I am going to go with Cedric Tillman
Honorable Mention
Hendon Hooker, Chase McGrath, Byron Young, Bru McCoy, Aaron Beasley. I would include Flowers here but he muffed that punt.

The Great

QB pressure almost all day long
Special Teams (kicking not punting or punt returning)
Adjustments late in the first quarter and into the second quarter
Tough, gritty performance in gutting out a big win

The Good

Overall defensive game plan
WR
First half coaching

Opportunities for improvement

Special Teams (punting and punt returns)
OL play overall, especially run blocking
Coming out not ready to play (it appeared so to me)
Taking care of the ball in the fourth quarter
Second half offense was pretty awful, but OT looked good

Grades

Overall A- (I know some people will have a problem with this, but winning against a ranked team on the road deserves this grade, IMO)
Offense B-
Defense B+
Special Teams Kicking A
Special Teams Punting F
Coaching C+

Again, great effort and we willed a win. Let's get ready for Akron.

VICTORY IS VICTORY

The announcers said earlier in the game that the last time Tennessee played in the Northeast was against Syracuse in 1998. 😎

Tennessee was shaky that game too, but just like this Tennessee team, they pulled out a narrow victory 34-33 over a ranked Syracuse team.

I believe that it’s a sign. History repeating itself! I am all in.

Coach Narduzzi is a defensive strategist the level of which Tennessee may not run into again this season. I just hope that the Offense was having an off night. I also hope that the blueprint for handling our offense wasn’t shown this game. The “defensive coaches “ in the SEC are used to being able to out talent the opponents. I think that we will have the upper hand in most games this season.

On different note, bama is vulnerable. Texas’s defense is not better than Tennessee’s defense.

I don't think it was the blueprint for stopping the offense. Narduzzi picked his poison in selling out to stop the run and daring Hooker to beat them passing. It almost worked because Hooker was up and down throughout the game and special teams miscues gave Pitt two additional possessions. It was pretty much the same strategy Alabama used on defense last year. If the o-line gives Hooker time to throw, then that's really going to be a look the offense is happy to see with the receivers we have.

We play like this and Florida is gonna smoke us, maybe Kentucky too. Need to not have hiccups on Offense. If the offense could play like last game and the defense like this game, we could go 10-2.

Time for some push-ups Sarge. You’re better than this.

One week at a time. One game at a time. Next up, the University of Akron. Take care of business.

notre dame and Texas A&M weren’t prepared for a “cupcake” this week and it bit them in the ass. I am ecstatic for notre dame’s misery.

Saddened by Texas A&M as my wife and many friends and family are diehard Aggies. I have wanted to play them in the SECCG game since they joined the SEC. I hope that they rise to the occasion and run the gauntlet of the rest of the year. It’s still possible for them to make it in. The thought of a two loss bama not making the SECCG or the playoffs warms my heart…

All I know is we hurt Slovis bad in that game, and just about broke the legs of the second string QB. Defense stepped up with the pressure. First half was like

Yeah I mean, never want to injure a guy badly, but it's like we earned that backup qb. We beat the crap out of Slovis.

I don’t think you can give the coaching a c+they were better IMO
The offense coaches drew up some good plays
Hook overthrew Hyatt early and Tillman should’ve caught that TD pass
Guys were open early but we missed on them
We physically beat them up
Haven’t done that in awhile to a good team

Defense looks a lot better this year. I think Tillman got way too many targets for how many drops he had. Hopefully the other receivers get more opportunities going forward.

How many yards did he end up with? Gotta stay with him. Game changer can have a bad game. How many passes did he catch against Pitt last year? Trying too hard to overcome the past. He and Hooker both were trying to force it. Look at the receiving corp stats. They played well against a very good defense and a great game plan by Pitt.

Give our players some credit. With the past 4 coaching staff cultures, they would have folded after making no adjustments and it would have affected the players for the rest of the season.

The offense will learn tons from this game. The defense was exciting and much better than last year…

Gonna be a wild ride. Strap in or bail now.

Beasley on spy duties for AR. Thoughts? Need someone to attack the moment he's out of pocket. Need a bee line guy.

I like Beasley as the spy wwaaaayyyyy more than Banks. I still have bad flashbacks to Ole Miss last year and Banks just standing there waiting on the Center to come block him every Corral run last year.

GameDay options in week four are as follows:
Tennessee vs Florida - best option still
Ohio state vs Wisconsin - maybe
Tamu vs Arkansas - lost it yesterday
Wake vs Clemson - wgaf about the acc.

Sec network will be in knox probably.

GameDay will go to some fcs matchup because Tennessee.

I think we get GameDay for week 7.

Only problem I have to this (which may be an unpopular opinion) is Hendon Hooker. In my opinion he was just ok. Not honorable mention. Dude looked like the VT qb we all thought we were getting. Second quarter and OT he was good but other than that it was rough.

Let's remember he took time to settle in last year too. Didn't shred Pitt and threw a bad pick. Took him a few games to get more dialed in.

Next week will be big for him just dialing in on those screen passes (gotta get them down) and not overthrowing deep.

It's only game 2. Long season ahead.
