Take away the 76 yd TD run, and Abanikanda has 78 yds on 24 carries; and, Pitt rushes for around 65 yds as a team. Defense truly ate today. Outright violent assaults on their QBs.

Good post. That was the key to the win. Take note going forward. We were misaligned on the long run and they hit it perfect with the play call. Adjusted and no more busts.

We made it hard on ourselves and still won against a good team and program in their house. That tells me what I want to know going forward. We left 3 TDs and/or FGs off the scoreboard on O, stupid punt game mistakes by seniors, and still won.

You certainly don't want banks doing it. You just got to hope for contain but Beasley is the guy imo.
Beasley has definitely looked better than Banks this year, I just don't know if spying a mobile QB is his strength.

I'm hoping that Mitchell and Dee Williams get to work back in against Akron. I think Dee Williams should see a clear path to the field as a corner and punt returner. I think Mitchell will take some snaps and strengthen that group.

Because I look at comparative scores.
I know they don’t correlate in every situation but I think they do the majority of the time.
When evaluating how good Pitt is, I look at who they barely beat but were outplayed by (WVU) who just lost at home to perennial doormat Kansas.

It's possible Pitt sucks I guess. Too early in the season to say for sure.

I'm thinking about it this way though. We beat a ranked team on the road despite playing like absolute garbage. Hooker missed throws, Tillman dropped catches, two blown special teams plays, a fumble in a key 4th quarter drive, and we still won. If we clean some of that stuff up this team could be amazing.

No, they really don't. Each game is ALWAYS unto itself, with it's own set of circumstances. With your thinking, ND taking the #3 team in the country to the wire, should've meant them taking Marshall to the woodshed. Also, and someone else mentioned this...since Bama struggled with an unranked Texas (with their back-up QB), are you looking for them to continue struggling?
Hoping

Lots of game left to be giving up already folks.

These announcers are actually pretty good. I got nervous when they were shown eating pizza, but they never missed showing a play… much more professional than the Looney Toons ESPN announcers from last week.

Can Tennessee pay for the announcer crew? I could actually listen to this group.

Pitt lost so many players in our game they may stink going for just because of the attrition. Doesn’t take anything away from the win in my book.

It may be an overreaction but I think Bama is gettable this year at home. They haven’t played well on the road in their last 5 games and this team just looks like it has more holes than previous Saban editions. Their OL isn’t dominating, their WR’s are fast but not much else, and their DB’s can be had by better WR’s. They’ll probably clean up their act, but they were sloppy as hell yesterday, with more penalties than a Saban Bama team ever.

Burrell is really that bad. He always has been.

The TD in the endzone they had on us to tie the game Burrell was committing Pass Interference and still let the receiver catch the ball lol. Burrell is not a good CB and needs to be replaced.

The Flowers interception in the endzone…. Burrell called for holding and the play wasn’t even to his side of the field.

I told my buddy watching the game with me that if I was going to try and score to tie the game I would throw at #4 and what did they do?

People who don't even know football know #4 is not a good football player. Every opponent knows it and uses it against them.

Yet, they trot him out there week after week. 🤪

In regards to Burrell. When he’s on special teams he shows elite reaction time, burst, and speed off the edge. The man looks like he’ll block every field goal attempt. Against the run he flies to the ball. Why doesn’t that translate to his pass protection? I seriously am asking because I didn’t play at a high level.

And yet he whiffs even those. smh...

I feel like Burrell will be sat whenever Turnage/Charles are comfortable enough playing corner to take his spot, which hopefully is soon, this week vs akron would be a GREAT time to get them more acclimated
Our coaches consider Burrell our number one corner so that probably won’t happen…. Did Burrell play that bad of a game? He didn’t seem targeted that much.

Late to the party on this but here are my takeaways from today…

1. We should’ve beaten Pitt by 3+ touchdowns
2. The defensive front 7 came to play when it came to rushing the passer. We had 26 QB pressures which might be the most I’ve ever seen. Rush defense was also stout for the most part.
3. Aaron Beasley was a stud today.
4. Rush offense was almost non-existent today.
5. Hooker was off but made critical plays when it mattered.
6. Too many mistakes, including blocked punt and muffed punt.
7. Jeremy Banks needs to get on the jugs machine and work on his hands. He let two INT’s go through his hands today.

All in all a great win IMO. First win over a top 25 team on the road since Miami in 2003. We faced adversity from our own mistakes but still found a way to win. I think winning a close game when we made quite a few mistakes and it seemed like we tried to give them the game will only help them in the future.
Also note, the defensive pressure we applied was to a starting returning OL that won the ACC last year. What a great performance by that 7.

I actually feel much more confident about our team as we won with Defense, not offense. When we can say Hooker didn’t have his best or great game and still win on the road against a good team, I love it and will never take it for granted.

Great win and GBO!

Every bounce went their way, but the Tennessee Defense not only didn’t let up,

They put on more steam!

If they keep improving week to week, then obviously:

15-0 🤠

The deflections of passes they caught in the first half were ridiculous. All we could do was laugh. When their QB hit Thomas in the head with one in the second half I expected the ball to be caught by Pitt in the end zone for a TD. It was that stupid of a game for luck. Two calls had to be overturned on sideline catches (the potential pick and the pass in the 4th Q) with two officials looking at the plays. The booth fixed their apparent lack of eyesight.

Just a typical Vol type night game. Weird.

It would mean more if it wasn’t against a subpar backup qb but we won and survived…. Much better than learning after a loss.
