War in Ukraine

Checking out the purported salients that are forming by the Ukrainian counterattack in Kherson. Impressive if true.

They seem to be designed as a pincer with the western forces heading towards the downtown Kherson Bridge and the Eastern forces heading towards the dam/railway Bridge in Nova. Taking the bridges would all but ensure 20K Russian troops trapped West of the river.

Bloomberg:

Russia Privately Warns of Deep and Prolonged Economic Damage

Russia may face a longer and deeper recession as the impact of US and European sanctions spreads, handicapping sectors that the country has relied on for years to power its economy, according to an internal report prepared for the government.

The document, the result of months of work by officials and experts trying to assess the true impact of Russia’s economic isolation due to President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, paints a far more dire picture than officials usually do in their upbeat public pronouncements.

Bloomberg viewed a copy of the report, drafted for a closed-door meeting of top officials on Aug. 30. People familiar with the deliberations confirmed its authenticity.

Two of the three scenarios in the report show the contraction accelerating next year, with the economy returning to the prewar level only at the end of the decade or later. The “inertial” one sees the economy bottoming out next year 8.3% below the 2021 level, while the “stress” scenario puts the low in 2024 at 11.9% under last year’s level.

Savage

While the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu, speaking about visas for Russian citizens, suggested taking stones for a riot in his hands, a group of caring citizens advised Reinsalu to start by hanging a stone around his neck: with his actions, he and other European politicians are literally drowning their own economy.

As a result, the Estonian embassy even got a stone with a rope especially for the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry.

Its funny to think that you actually think Russia was ever out of the dark ages.

There is a reason its known as the biggest trailer park in the world.
It's funny how Russia is still making money and still trading with other countries yet you clowns think they are going to go in some kind of dark age.

Outside of mainstream, left wing, and the occasional conservative news sources - the only people I've heard say anything bad about Russia or their culture are you and your fellow cackling hen trolls on this thread.

Want to know how bad it is for Russia? They are purchasing arms from North Korea..

From CNN:
Live updates: Russia's war in Ukraine

More evidence that Russia is quickly becoming combat ineffective which will take them years if not decades to recover from. Guess them Soviet tanks and weapons being "unmothballed" wasn't so tactical now was it?

I'm laughing at the fact that you're quoting CNN before 6am in the morning. And you wonder why people don't buy your trolling.

Oh really. So you're good with Russia simply annexing Ukraine and killing its people?

Most people disagree ergo the huge support for Ukraine.

Looks like the new UK PM is just as suicidal as the last one.

Incoming PM Truss Drafts Colossal £130 Billion Plan To Freeze UK Power Bills

Trillions In "Liquidity Support Is Going To Be Needed" As Swiss, Finns Join Europe's Bailout Brigade

Interventionist energy policy has failed miserably. More intervention is not going to solve it.

Agreed. For someone reason they hate the Russians but they want to live like 1980s USSR citizens.

The Plan.... fight higher prices with more liquidity. :D:D

You can't print energy.

6 In 10 UK Manufacturers At Risk Of Closure, Lobby Group Warns As Energy Prices Soar

You have either increase supply or decrease demand i.e. economic output, or combination.

Italy's Salvini Breaks Ranks: 'End Energy Sanctions Against Russia Because We Are On Our Knees'

On Sunday Salvini urged an end to Russia energy sanctions which are only leaving Europeans "on their knees" due to higher energy bills and lack of supply. "Several months have passed and people are paying two, three, even four times more for their bills," he said in an interview RTL radio. "And after seven months, the war continues and Russian Federation coffers are filling with money."

"Do we have to defend Ukraine? Yes," Salvini said. "But I would not want the sanctions to harm those who impose them more than those who are hit by them." Politico meanwhile noted his coalition is expected to win big in late September national elections:
Salvini's remarks come just weeks before Italians head to the polls on September 25 in a national election in which a right-wing coalition that includes the League is expected to win. His comments could therefore raise concerns about the future government's resolve against Russia among other EU politicians, especially given one of Salvini's allies in the coalition, Brothers of Italy leader Giorgia Meloni, has vowed to stand firm with NATO on tough measures against Moscow.
Salvini called for a rethinking of current tactics, but still vowed that if in power his League party won't stop backing Ukraine. "If we get into government will we change alliances? No. We remain deeply, proudly and firmly rooted in a free and democratic West that opposes war and aggression," he explained. "But if we adopt an instrument to hurt the aggressor and after seven months of war it has not been hurt, at least considering a change seems legitimate to me."

A little late for that don't you think? Kind of hard to walk all this back isn't? (Play stupid games, win stupid prizes) To me it looks like a ton of stupid white people need to exit the gene pool stage left.

Best case scenario, Europe (maybe world) goes into a recession or depression which eases energy prices in Europe?????? That's all I got. :D

"Putin Has Pushed Europe Into An Inflationary Depression And Currency Collapse"

I think its a good article but premature at this point, but Europe is certainly going down that path. You either need to cut demand or increase the supply (or combination), the problem with the supply side is you are probably talking 100s of billions or more, and 5-10 years to get the results.

Right now, unless something changes Europe will have to live like 1980s Soviets in the not so distant future. LOL

You sanctios a trading partner than you demand they trade with you, funny sh*t. They chose very poorly imo. Very high risk, and no real reward scenario that I can see.

It would seem like a very reasonable proposition to me, drop the sanctions or you get nothing.

Most people have moved on and no longer care about Ukraine. Most I talk to are fed up with sending them billions of $ and arms. Even the ones who were supporting them back in the spring.

I'm good with how Russia has handled this since 2014. They have bent over backwards in doing their due diligence to prevent what finally transpired in Feb. For Russia's own safety, Ukraine could no longer be trusted as they were an agent of the West. They will be rightfully annexed.

If the West really care for them, you would think they wouldn't have gotten them in a war with no path to victory. Its a suicide run. Ole well.

Salvini didn’t break ranks. He has been team Putin for years.
And the right wing coalition he will be part of will be lead by a pro Ukraine party.

Well, the rest of them are on Team Ukrainian Death/Team Poor Europe.

Regardless, he isn't wrong. <----- The problem is, there is no easy way to walk all this back.

Gazprom to Shift Gas Sales to China to Rubles, Yuan From Euro

The state-run gas giant signed an additional agreement to its existing contract with China National Petroleum Corp. on the issue Tuesday, Gazprom said in a statement. Payment will be made 50% in rubles and 50% in yuan, effective immediately, according to a person familiar with the plans who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss matters that aren’t yet public.

The truth of the matter is there is no place to get cheap energy for Europe to replace the Russian cheap energy.

Economic output cut in Europe will have to be significant in the coming months if not years. The Europeans are on the path to becoming 1980s USSR, imo.

Agreed. Have said that from the start. While I despise Ukrainian leadership, I feel bad for the innocent Ukrainians stuck in the middle of this. No one in the Western Death Cult gives 2 rips about their well being. They are but stupid insignificant pawns to them.

Nomura: Yields Soar As Markets Demand "Return Of Printers" To Monetize Europe's Energy Hyperinflation Stimulus

Equities are rallying, and yields are surging, with the 10Y rising above 3.30%...

Here McElligott says that speaking pragmatically, he is "not really sure how fiscal stimulus works to address Energy supply shortage realities…but hey, I’m just a grunt laborer."

Print themselves right back to the Weimar Republic.

They can print the hell out of money though. That's all The West (including the United States) has.

The supply side equation doesn't change though. We're going to save the consumers from price inflation by targeting money to the area where prices are going up the most. LOL

This will just cause more shortages.

ECB: we must crush demand to stop energy hyperinflation

I think we are probably in the immediate (short-term) panic top stage though, we'll see. If they don't stop the insanity, households better prepare for $1-2kwH.
