He also wasnt a "black hole" ball hog...who shot less than 50% from the field for his career. Magic made everyone around him a better player on the court ...with his unselfish, well rounded, 6ft 9in point/combo guard skills and defense. Jordan allegedly made all his team-mates better by being a total ******* off the court and in practice. Wow. If i wanted a ball hog who could grab a steal here and there and average 30 points a game give me prime Allen Iverson. He did it at 5ft 11 and without Pippen there to quietly cover for the deficiencies in his defense and ball hogging tendencies....oh, and Iversons coworkers still speak very highly of him. Most of the guys that played with Jordan..including Scottie...cant stand the guy. I have lived in NC for 34 years now, married into a Tarheel family. Lots of Jordan nuthuggers round here. He was a great player no doubt. Top 5 all time. Most of that is based upon his 6 rings though...which he never would have gotten without having a hall of fame 3 in Pippen, a solid center/post, and a white guy to come in and stick dagger 3s in crunch time on every single championship team he played on.

What happens when/if Steph Curry wins 2 more chips to get his 6? He destroys Jordan offensively because he is the best shooter to ever touch a basketball...and his defense has improved dramatically over his career. Barring a career ending injury he is gonna "Secretariat" the career 3 point record too. Where does that put Jordan? I hate that we didnt know then what we know now, or have the medicines that make HIV nearly undetectable in parts per billion of the bloodstream. Magic could have played several more years himself. Tim Duncan bests Jordan hugely in every stat but points per game and 1 less ring, and he was 15 times All NBA and 15 times All Defensive team. His game just wasnt flashy and he was not the face of NIKE. There will always be arguments over which player was or is best, there are just too many variables in the equation.

I may have been slightly intoxicated and swam across that before leaving San Antoine for Jump School at Ft Benning the next afternoon. 3 of San Antonio's finest chased us for what must have been about 3 miles before we were able to grab a cab back to Ft Sam.

If I were more motivated, I'd carry through with a thought I had today. Paint the drive orange and white checkerboard and put up a sign saying the colors are orange and white - not smoky gray or black and orange. Tradition does mean something - it's part of continuity from earlier generations to newer generations. When newer generations get to be old, it they still want to diddle with tradition and still haven't figured it out, it's their turn, but not now. I don't buy kids/recruits deciding what colors they wear; they wear the uniform, or find someplace else with their preferred colors.

I don't mind the grey or blacks one game a year to hype the kids up but i like orange with white pants at home and storm troopers all whites for road games. The uniforms back in the 90s featured in Al "stomp on yer Mama" Wilson highlights are wonderful. We were feared on Defense back then...and for good reason. Some of those teams put 8 or 9 starters from our defense in the NFL. Wish my kids knew what it felt like to have our Vols always ranked in the top 10, and see us own Bama like we owned Kentucky during the Fulmer era .

Back in the day it was some blue hair being angry that the new fangled colors were orange and white. Back in his day blue was the color of the university. Or how can they wear black shoes, or why the power T when the interlocked UT was traditional, why do we need a dog mascot, why do we have Rocky Top when Down the Field has been, and still is, our fight song.

I guarentee you it wasnt the 60 somethings making those changes, it was the college aged kids who were actually currently attending the college that made those decisions.

Good article on Cade. This dude actually managed to get drafted playing in Pruitt/ JGs horrific, historically terrible offense. Yall remember when we went 10 or 12 consecutive quarters without a TD right? I hope JG and Pruitt both get pediculosis pubis while stranded on a desert island together. For life.

Football historians will tell you that early "uniforms" were clothing that could be used for the game - heavy sweaters etc - and they were generally muted browns, grays, and blacks because of the dyes available. When better dyes were available, it changed things. So, yes, maybe Tennessee football players wore grays and blacks back when real uniforms had yet to evolve. Henry Ford painted all cars black at one time for much the same reason - supposedly. The hooked UT was introduced as I recall not by students but by Doug Dickey - along with several other things. Dickey was a very good coach and an even better AD. The hooked UT went away with the UT/TU squabble about trademarks - notice now TU doesn't currently use the hooked UT either.

I've never looked up the history on Smokey, but there used to be a Tennessee walking horse every home game. It almost seems like that tradition went away when Doug Dickey got the university to install the new 3M Tartan Turf - that made some other stuff practical like the checkerboard end zones and on field logos. As to the checkerboards check out Ayres hall. Supposedly the orange came from the flowers growing on the hill. Rocky Top was probably the work of the band director at the time and turned into a crowd favorite, so I sort of agree with you about the fan (but not student) sentiment. It seems somewhat appropriate anyway; the Tennessee Waltz was a favorite at one time and things have been more rocky and less a waltz with UT football more recently.

There is one thing that students probably did initiate - and I whole heartedly back. Most of us wore coats and ties to games in the mid 60s, and I'm glad that went away.

My thing is that anybody who plays for Tennessee should be there because he or she is proud of the university and the traditions. The day students really run things is the day it's the inmates running the asylum - something you do learn with age; this comes from comparing thoughts as a student with perspective gained as an adult. Without going further and getting this twisted into politics, we've become a nation of people who want instant gratification and self direction, and we are paying for it in so many ways. A brat used to be corrected on the spot for a temper tantrum in a grocery store, but political correctness put an end to that - perhaps that's where all the change really started. That's all I got to say on the issue. Except I don't like the new Tennessee license plates either - another WTF idea.

Blue hair comment raised my eyebrows.
All I know is Bama aint doing no uniform gimmicks. They dont need to rebrand and neither do we..but alas it is all silly to what sneakers one wears.
Todays society..all fluff no substance.

Yeah if we had guys who wanted to be here we wouldnt have a team that could win anything. People are at UT for the opprotunity it provides, not the traditions they were probably never a part of before.

I'm an alumnus, not a student. I like the grays. I like some of the things that get out of the same routine now and then. Hell, if we're all about tradition, let's bring back third and Chavis.

The black uniforms on Halloween were a nice touch.

I'm not so sure that Third and Chavis hasn't been a staple for some time. Hopefully the Hype will learn to respect the other part of the game and quit relying on a gimmicky offense. We were like 103 out of 120 teams or so on third down stops - pretty bad - probably what you'd expect of a defense that gets put back out on the field without a rest and a coach is too busy finding offense to worry about defensive depth. He gets a pass for now because you play with what you got; we'll know how it's all going to play out in the next few years, but if you are going to play his game, then you'll need twice as many good defensive players as offense.

Regarding your last line, I really don't understand how you think like that. ND is not the one making a mistake. The policy is incorrect. He has literally come out and said that he is not Anti-Vaccine, stating that it is not right for him. I'm all for villainizing someone for being a doucebag, but villainizing someone for their vaccine status is just hating to hate/ being a part of the mob. I grew up a tennis player and was never a ND fan (Federer gang), but people acting like he's a bad person because of his personal medical choices is laughable to me.
