Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I can see that as a valid argument. IIRC he had double digits in REBs and points over a decade. There was also a four year span when DM averaged 4 blocks a game. He definitely wasn't Shaq, Hakeem, or Ewing but was still a force. He won many accolades too.
Edit: Looks like I was off on his stats a tad. Still good numbers during his prime.

Dikembe Mutombo Stats | Basketball-Reference.com
His first 13 seasons in the league he averaged double digits in rebounds. He is 21st all time. He's also second all time in blocks. Only Hakeem has more. Wes Unseld was not much of a scorer and he's in the Hall of Fame as well.

Mutumbo also played for the Nuggets team who was the first 8 seed to knock off a 1 seed in the playoffs which was the Sonics. And he did play in the Finals one season with the 76ers.

I don't think Mutombo was that good...

Not compared to the talent in the league at the time.

Don't quit your day job to be an analyst, sir.

To be that level of a defensive presence during the most ferocious offensive era in the paint in the league's history, most assuredly, makes someone "that good."

Compare and contrast him to Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Shaq and even Lambier.

The only thing going for him was height.

What did you do to be punished and sentenced to San Antonio?
Eh there are worse places to spend the next few days. I wish we were lower it’s hard to drink margaritas and watch the freak show unfold from the 7th floor. Last time we were third floor that was perfect freak show watching height.

Top 30 players all time in no particular order:

Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Lebron James, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Oscar Robertson, Isiah Thomas, Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant, Hakeem Olajuwon, Jerry West, Bob Cousy, Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, Dirk Nowitzki, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Shaquille O Neal, Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Russell Westbrook, Tim Duncan, Dwyane Wade.

Of course many others could make the list and its always debatable who belongs in the top ten.

And here is a fun fact. The only RB to gain 1,000 rushing yards in a season while playing with Dan Marino was Karim Abdul Jabbar.
Bill Simmons wrote a book about ten years ago (think it was "the book of basketball") that touched on a lot of the historical greats and listed his order. You might like it.

My mom went to San Antonio for work conferences several times and really liked it. Told me several times I should take a long weekend there. Clarkette and I have always talked about going, but never have.

That's not a river, that's a creek.
Well it’s running right down the middle of town and lined with shops, good restaurants, and live entertainment so they can call it any damn thing they like I guess 🤷‍♂️

But yeah it isn’t terribly wide. They do have tour boats that carry 30 or 40 people on them but that’s about the biggest I’ve seen. It does connect to the rest of the San Antonio River but the “River walk” is a small U shaped section lined with tourist traps.

Latina old folks home your ass already? That was fast post retirement move by her. At least you have a nice view
Lol. Just a temporary old folks home stay. Three days. Golf Saturday then a trip to Texas wine country and Fredricksburg tomorrow for antiques shopping. Will want to hit the Messina Hof winery for a few bottles of my favorite tawny port.

Good times.

If we make it down there, I'm going to ask you for some places to go.
