Federal Indictment of Donald Trump

ANDREW NEIL: Why the FBI's raid on Trump's swanky Palm Beach home made America – and the free world – a Less Safe Place

Those who've seen or spoken to Donald Trump this week say he's more energised and confident about a political comeback than at any time since he reluctantly left the White House in January 2021, falsely claiming to have won the presidential election.

Far from being cowed by Monday's FBI raid on his Florida home, he's buoyed up by the Republican party rallying behind him with one voice, boasting that even long-standing critics in his own party have publicly condemned the FBI and backed him.

The gerontocracy that controls the Democrats was hoping the FBI raid would discredit Trump and deter him from another bid for the presidency. They couldn't have been more wrong.

The raid has boomeranged badly on the Biden administration, making it more certain than ever that Trump will run again for the Republican nomination, more likely than ever to win it (indeed, as things stand, he's unstoppable) — and start the next presidential election race as likely favourite to re-take the White House in November 2024, whoever his Democratic opponent.

It's quite a week's work for the ancient bumblers at the top of the Democratic party machine. If you're partial to conspiracy theories you might even conclude that the Democrats have been secretly infiltrated by folks whose mission it is to give Trump a new lease of political life.

Donald Trump could have just turned over the documents that were listed in the subpoena. Why didn't he?

None of you are taking the role Trump played in the raid, into consideration.
So far there has been abundant speculation about the situation, but very few facts have actually been established. So, I don't believe anyone on VN can tell you why Trump didn't turn over the documents. Maybe he did turn over all documents subject to the original subpoena. Maybe he believed negotiations over the second tranche of documents were going swell, with the DOJ merely asking him to store the remaining documents more securely during those negotiations. Did DOJ sit on their hands June - July and suddenly blindside Trump with the search warrant for political purposes? Did DOJ recently learn of a third tranche of documents that Trump had concealed from DOJ. Too many unknowns at this point.

A new one!

“Trump didn’t take any classified material”

“Okay, he did take classified material but he declassified it”

“Okay he didn’t declassify it, but he didn’t pack the boxes”

“Okay he did pack the boxes but sometimes you just take work home with you”

Even if true, Donald Trump would have no need for those documents now, as a former President. This latest reasoning doesn't explain why Trump didn't just return them to Department of Justice officials, when he was served with a subpoena for them. There were appropriate legal channels to go through, in order to get those items back, if he legitimately believed that they were his personal property. The various explanations coming from the Trump side, aren't bringing any clarity to this situation.

This is absolutely flawless

I mean, seriously. They are politicians. They're all corrupt. How corrupt is the question. . .

Married men flying to an island to have sex with trafficked minors? Screwing an intern in the oval office? Fudging intel to start a war in the ME? Having classified info on a personal laptop? Insider trading before your wife passes a law that makes you millions? Telling the American people that a shot will keep you from every getting a respiratory virus? Even considering trading a terrorist arms dealer for a basketball player that clearly violated the law in a foreign country?

It's mind numbing. The former president having some documents in his house under lock and key that belonged to the Archives shouldn't even perk anyone's interest. The feigned outrage is ridiculous.

No facts at this point.
Who here would like to see Trump hang by a rope? Execution style.
Man up

All these nuts would. This is just like the impeachment with 'whistleblower' colonel Vindman. Vindman said he heard Trump saying things on a phone call that were not in keeping with US foreign policy. It didn't occur to Vindman that whatever Trump said was US policy in real-time. Classification works the same way. Basically, they keep trying to charge him with being the president. He won and could win again and in their minds it must be a crime somehow.

If they were that important, why didn't the FBI take them the last time they visited. Maybe the January 6th stuff wasn't working out and the midterms are coming.

After Trump..it will be next. It is being a part of the machine or not.

Maybe they didn't know where they were? You are assuming that Trump and his staff were being forthcoming. Per multiple sources, this raid resulted from an informant coming forward with new information concerning which documents were still at Mar-a-Lago and more specifically, exactly where on the premises these documents were being stored. Trump had them at his private residence. Why didn't he comply with the subpoena and hand them over to DOJ officials? As I keep saying, there were appropriate legal channels to go through, in order for Trump to argue that those items were his personal property and get them back. Trump chose to defy a subpoena instead.
