Here is a fun off-season question. Name a Tennessee player from past years that improved significantly from one year to another.

Then, tell me a player that you think can do the same this year.

My answer to the first question: Cedric Tillman is the obvious answer for me. I took the easy way out on this one.

This year, I think someone that will improve a lot will be Trevon Flowers.

Nigel Warrior. This year I think Jalin Hyatt will improve big time.

Other notes from their interviews:

-Vandy in for bigger rebuild than everyone thought.

-UGA is going to be great (surprise). Defense will take step back from "best defense of all time" to *just* very good. 2023 defense could be as good as 2021 Defense was, so this is a good year to "get" Georgia.

-Alabama elite everywhere. Spoiled themselves getting the LSU transfer DB and the GT RB. WR was a question mark and somehow brought in UGA's best WR. Will be dependable for them, have some younger guys at WR that will develop. Everything on defense is elite. Whole team on mission after losing NC last year.

Pitt:
-new OC was with Pitt in past, has been longtime NFL staffer. So they lose a guy to NFL and get one back.
-less pass happy this year by design. Will run a lot.
-new OC + new QB + experienced OL = lots of run
-were planning to run a lot even before they lost Addison which might be why they lost him
-Pitt lost best WR but did bring in transfer from Akron that was highly sought after
-all 7 DL that played 250+ snaps are back, 35 sacks return. Super deep at DL
-holes at LB
-5 of 6 DB that played 350+ snaps return. Not much of a dropoff. Their best returning corner did get smoked against Tennessee last year.
-expect a ton of running in WVU and Tennessee games to start the season to give new QB time to warm up for ACC schedule that they think they can excel against.

Mizzou:
-some optimistism, mainly around recruiting, but a lot of anxiety to see some more results after last year started so flat
-offense finished last year in the 50's
-QB still a question mark. Missed on a few big name transfer QBs.
-WR will be better, pretty solid group, led by elite 5-star they brought in
-best RB is gone, think they'll see more bubble screens and WR swings to open up field for athletic WR. Have a dual threat QB that they could use to run more too.
-defense was BAD last year. Did improve as season went on.
-a lot of guys back, staff making system easier so don't expect players looking lost like the first half of last year
-lost a starting DL to LSU. Brought some transfers in. Transfer DT from OkSt is good.
-thin at corner

Florida:
-underperformed last year, lot of effort issues last year, so poor performance not necessarily because of lack of talent.
-Anthony Richardson freaky athlete, big time arm. Napier has history utilizing dual-threat QB.
-losing their best WR.
-lot of talent on roster but they'll need some guys to step up at WR to fill in for best guys that left. Justin Shoter - looks like TO, moves like TO, can he catch and put it all together? Lots of hype.
-RB room leaning on two former transfer RBs from Miami and Clemson. Haven't done much yet though.
-do expect RBs to have more room to operate with defenses having to respect AR at QB.
-OL brought in some transfers and will probably be better. Lot of potential at OL.
-Interior DL lost their best players. Interior DL big concern.
-interior DL, WR, safety, ILB all positions of concern identified by staff
-Napier does not feel good about depth in general
-LB lost a lot of experience
-CBs a strength

LSU:
-Brian Kelly proven head coach, despite memes. Fans don't care anyway. There's a lot of trust among players, admin, fans that Kelly will be good.
-lot of turnover at multiple positions, still figuring out scheme
-Kelly utilizes TEs more, but not a lot of TE depth now. So probably more 3-4 WR sets.
-Uncertainty at QB, but not BAD at position. If Kelly wants mobility they can go to Daniels
-RB has depth, talent
-OL lost top 4 players by snap count. Have some talent to work with. Center is an unknown. Have a freshman OT that has proven to be a beast and if he can start at LT it opens up options along line.
-talented WR room, a lot of production back
-run defense was bad last year
-DL unit will be great. Best unit on team.
-Ojulari can be an everything for them on D, kind of what Josh Allen was for Kentucky a few years ago. Has that kind of upside.
-LB has transfers and good young talent coming in, potential there
-lost 4 out of 5 of their best DBs. Bring in 4 transfers. Great unit on paper, have to see if they can put it together. Depth could be an issue at CB.
-LSU could finish anywhere from 6th to 2nd in the west, could be 8 win team. Could be 10. Could be 6. Finishing 3rd in West would be good year.

Has this guy always hated TN? Seeing the replies I think he’s just a troll looking for clicks.

I have said over and over that he deliberately writes hit jobs on TN because our fan base guarantees him clicks. Best way to be rid of him is to never click one of his stories.

Thanks to the random guy yesterday that stopped and changed the tire on my truck. Stuck on the side of the road and couldn't get my jack under it,too low to the ground and needed a floor jack. Sat there for two hours already and was being told by roadside assistance or would be 4 hours before anytime could get there.

Random roadside guy pulls up with a floor jack and I was on my way in 10 minutes.

Wouldn't even tell me his name. Kinda restored my faith in people, cause apparently not all people suck. Who knew?

So thanks random roadside guy.appreciate it.

Here's what they said about Tennessee, just to get comparisons and an idea of how they grade us vs those other teams:

-last year excellent year
-top 20 in all major power rankings
-unfortunately caught Florida last year when Florida was still trying
-overall mood around UT -- hopeful, lot of buy in, top 10 class, lot to look forward to with Nico coming in next year too. Positive vibe, cautiously optimistic.
-when looking at offense last year, especially Hooker plays/games, Tennessee was top 10. Where can Hooker improve? Comfort with offense, proper reads, manipulating defenses. Not as elite of a runner as Dobbs but brings that athleticism when needed.
-OL played better than expected last year and returns 6 of top 7. Look to be improved. Tackle still solidifying, could see rotation along line in camp/season.
-replacing Jones and Payton at WR big focus.
-best 1st quarter scoring average in country and beat 1st quarter diff in country
-Hyatt ready to step up, Hooker and him watching a lot of film together and throwing together
-Bru and Tillman good duo. Could be a different unit than last year but not necessarily worse
-3 of top 4 on DL gone. Couldn't generate pass rush though. Hard to replace Butler. Need edge guys to make big jump.
-LB and safety have to get better if they want to improve on D. Will Mitchell finally emerge?
-secondary added transfers, but DBs replacing 2 NFLers.
-has to be defense that generates negative plays and turnovers to allow for offense to separate from opponent.
-really bad on 3rd down. Have to improve that. Pass rush is major part of that.
-playing more aggressive on D makes more sense when you run a lot of plays on offense. Try to get ball back, be ok with explosive plays from time to time.
-Bud thinks Tennessee could be East dark horse.
-7 to 9 wins should be expectation, could exceed.
-lot of question marks on defense. Offense has to be perfect to get over 9 wins.
-other than Alabama what game is Tennessee going into that they don't have the better QB? Big advantage. But need to get the defensive stops. Offense has to be elite in second half when defense *does* make plays.

What defensive lineman did we lose besides butler? We return baron and young..Thomas, Simmons, and terry. We lost butler that was a good contributor but besides that we return a lot of people

Jeremy banks improved a lot last year.

I think Jimmy Holiday could surprise some folks this year especially on kr/pr

Sorry was listening at 2x speed. He said 3 top up front gone, at least by snap count

No, but as soon as I finish malazan I'm looking for a new series while I wait for Martin and Rothfuss to get their acts together, so I'll check it out.
Took me a while to polish off that series. Drove me a little nutty that I'd start the next novel without a mention of the characters I got really into the previous novel. Think it was the fourth or fifth book that you were 150 pages in before you realized how that character connected with the story. Ha.

I got ‘gifted’ a young kitten by my son and his family this past weekend. Never mind mom doesn’t have time, not a cat person and did I mention I don’t have time? Get a kitten they say 🤢.
Luckily they don't take all that much time. Some won't even care much what you do.

But I would suggest (if you plan to keep it) to go ahead and bond with it asap. Dote on it like a mother cat would and it will love you forever. I did this with my (now elder) cat and she's been the most loving pet ever. Very sweet and kind and loves affection and will stare deep into my eyes like she's almost human 😂

When we got a 2nd cat (wife's cat passed away) I showed my wife the same tricks so it could be "her" cat and now our younger cat is absolutely a mother's girl, though she likes us both a lot and is the sweetest cat as well.

Now all we need is a good medium sized dog breed that is good with cats to go for the trifecta.
