We were a trainwreck, but Arkansas was the Hindenburg. Sure, he didn't have an NCAA investigation to deal with, but as for everything else, Arkansas really was in worse shape. Nothing wrong in acknowledging that, and it doesn't lessen the incredible job Heupel and staff have done.

IMO this argument is silly because Pittman is a year ahead of Heupel. Let’s compare UT’s 2022 season to Ark’s 2021 (in ~7 months) and see where we’re at. Until then it’s like comparing Pigs and Oranges…

We all know the defense has got to improve but where at the most, LB, DB, DL. I think the most important thing is to stop teams on third down and get off the field. Think about how many big plays we gave up on third down and all three positions were the weak spot at different times.........that is what is troubling but with that being said I really think we have added too and matured in a way that could make our D somewhat of a bright spot.

Hope so. I know it drove Heupel crazy and hes mentioned 3rd down Defense a few times this offseason.

it was frustrating bc only a couple more stops a game and we would have had a really special season in yr 1. We didnt have to be completely lights out bc of the offense but if we could have had another stop or two each half then we would have been in business.

I watched my Niece leave her house the other day and she walked within 20 ft of a doe and never noticed. of course I hollered at her to look and of course she oohed and aahed but it made me think how much we just don't take the time to notice. I'm as guilty as the next but we all complain about this and that ugly thing but we never notice the Beauty standing within arms reach of us most of the time. So today lets look around.........it could help and we may see something pretty..

Wanted to see the sights that bad, huh?

Mrs. @Brillovol - "Honey, why don't we head back to hotel for a little while and have some alone time."

@Brillovol - "What? We can go to the hotel later. Look at that incredible rock formation! Look at the amazing pressure released by that geyser! Can you imagine if that much pent of pressure was suddenly releases from you? Okay. Back to the car. There is lots more of nature's beauty to see."

I've never said he was washed up. Where did that come from? I just didn't want to ruin it for you and tell you that his round began falling apart.

No I was referring to my post above about someone saying he joined Liv because he was. I wasn't accusing you of saying it. Sorry it came off that way.

Exactly this. And the NCAA investigation hasn’t been the handicap some make it out to be, especially with the timing of NIL and the stripping away of the NCAA’s power. Let’s not forget that Kansas basketball just won an NCAA Championship while “under investigation.”

Like I just said 10 under six shots back in a major doesn't spell washed up to me and there are always going to be young players come along that is what keeps the sport alive and exciting. Johnson played one shot worse than the number one player so there's that. Golfer hits slumps just like baseball players. Like Spieth. He fell off the map for a while after being a world beater but he has worked his way back. But anyway all I am saying is that Johnson isn't washed up yet.

Didn’t say he was, but he isn’t young either. I don’t see how playing 54 holes and shotgun starts really helps one play other highly competitive events. But we all know it was just for the money.

I just don’t believe it is “good” for the game. Greg Norman has been trying for years, and I’m sure he’s pocketing a bunch of money, too. Oh well.

Arkansas and UT were both bad situations in their own way. Pittman and Heupel have both done a good job so far compared to what they inherited. Neither believed in a year zero. I do agree with the statement of what you have in year 3 and 4 is likely your average season going forward.

I like the DW plan though of winning the SEC at least once every 5 years as the benchmark. In between I expect by year 3 a floor of 8 wins. With a special year every few years of 11 or more wins. We should beat at least 1 of Georgia, Bama, Florida every year by then and never lose to Kentucky, Vandy, Mizzou as well. We should beat USCe every year, but I think they will be the 3rd best team in the SECe by year 3 behind us and Georgia.

Heupel walked into an extremely volatile and sensitive environment that still hasn't completely stabilized.

However, he was also handed Hendon Hooker, and 5 NFL Draft picks to start with.

Arkansas was winless in the SEC for over 2 years. Not one SEC game in 24 months. Vanderbilt has managed to avoid that...

They had an average recruiting class ranking of #37 from 2017- to when.Pittman took over.
Tennessee had an average recruiting ranking of #16 in the easier division.
Both programs had busts and players leave their programs.

So YES. Pittman absolutely had a worse situation. And that doesn't diminish the outstanding job that Heupel ia doing.

Do any of y'all ever get tired of the petty arguing and simple minded scope of only seeing UT football in the scheme of college athletics? I mean Tennessee has Rivals...that have their own circumstances to deal with...that effect the conference.

It's not called the South Eastern Tennessee Vols Conference...🙄.

I mean, damn...Pittman walked into probably the worst situation since the formation of the SEC. But because were Vol fans...hey nobody can have greater problems than us!!
As a matter of fact, no one else has problems at all!
You can make a reasonable argument that Alontae was the only one getting drafted under the old staff and it would've been much later in the draft. Cade was plummeting down draft boards under Pruitt and the other three had zero NFL buzz around them. Hendon was a guy who had lost the starting job at struggling VT and didn't look good in the spring. This staff did a fantastic job with all of those guys.

He was handed a team that had be destroyed by transfers and had no leadership. He and his coaches provide the leadership and coaching for those players to develop into NHL draftees. You definitely are a very little of a VOL fan.
