It almost sounds like there are more Atlanta fans at the ballpark than Washington fans.
There probably are. They said on the radio it seems every time the Braves come to town there are more Braves hats than Nationals hats. They are the worst team in baseball. You would’ve never known they won the World Series 3 seasons ago.

On July 16 in Baseball History...
  • 1902 - John McGraw was named manager of the New York Giants, a job he would hold for thirty years.

  • 1909 - Ed Summers of the Detroit Tigers pitched all eighteen innings of a 0-0 tie with the Washington Senators, the longest scoreless game in American League history.

  • 1920 - Babe Ruth broke his own season record of twenty-nine homers with his thirtieth as the New York Yankees beat the St. Louis Browns 5-2. Ruth would finish the season with fifty-four.

  • 1941 - Joe DiMaggio extended his hitting streak to fifty-six games with a 3-for-4 day as the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 10-3.

  • 1948 - After 8 1/2 years as Brooklyn manager, Leo Durocher stunned baseball by becoming manager of the Giants in midseason.

  • 1969 - Rod Carew stole home off Chicago's Jerry Nyman in the Minnesota Twins' 6-2 victory. It was Carew's seventh steal of home for the year and last, one shy of the Major League / American League record set by Ty Cobb in 1912.

  • 1970 - The Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 before 48,846 in the first game at Three Rivers Stadium.

I’m enjoying this On this date in baseball history. Thanks Volpack.

Mad4vols you've become a big baseball fan. I believe this is the best site on VOLNATION ! I've always loved baseball and always been a mad VOLS fan. The VOLS being really good makes it really fun to follow.
I’m going to be honest, I grew up being a huge baseball fan but somewhere along the way, lost interest. Tony Vitello and his Vols, over the last 4 seasons, have brought me back to the game I love! I didn’t realize how much I missed baseball and the passion I once had for it. I feel like a kid again, because my son has also become a huge baseball nut and we are watching games, talking about games and players, playing MLB video games together, collecting baseball cards again! It’s awesome and I’ve been introduced to a whole new generation of baseball and it’s all because of Tony V, his baseVols, my son and this awesome baseball forum, filled with awesome people and baseball fans!!

Pretty much the same way. Coached for 20 years. Stayed close to the VOLS and Braves from the 90s through early 2000s , took a lot of kids to games during that time. Kept up from a distance when both started down hill pretty much. I think DW has a eye for good coaches and all VOL teams are looking better. I know he didn't hire all of these coaches but will do what it takes to keep the good ones.

Oakland would like a word with you… just checked. The Nats really are as bad or worse than Oakland. Misery loves company..
