‘23 FL OT Francis Mauigoa (Miami commit)

There’s no way this kid is not a Vol, right?
The family aspect is huge and from what I’v heard, was a key contributor to swaying Nico and that this kids family is bout in as well.
Well, NIL didn’t hurt, but the family thing was a big impact.
GBO!!

I believe family is communicating with both schools. There's truth in this. I think you have to say who are are top 3 guys on offense and the top 3 on defense that you must get and be prepared to pay almost whatever it takes to get them then be willing to let guys walk because they want too big of an NIL deal.

Wow quite an acknowledgement. So it is a bidding war. No wonder it's been going back and forth.

It will suck so bad if he picks Miami. I will hate Miami with the intensity of 10,000 suns. Let the NCAA bust Ruiz. Is this guy giving away his entire fortune to get Miami back to relevancy?

I don't think the players are being "bought" outright. It is my understanding that these big NIL deals are essentially advances for the kid to sign away their NIL rights to the collective representing them for x amount of dollars. Any money made on their NIL goes to the collective until the amount of the advance/contract is met. So someone like Ruiz, or a collective, is making an investment now, but they will get that money back over however many years.

if he doesn't pay every penny he promises he's screwed
Therein lies the problem that any kid will have if they sign with Miami based on an NIL deal. Their earnings from NIL greatly depend on one man's business remaining successful. There's a lot more security in working with a collective.

Hadn't thought of that. Good point.
