Wasn't Gilbert hit by a pitch and they ruled that he leaned into, reviewed it and confirmed it despite video evidence showing he didn't?
I wondered about that too. If they deemed he stepped into it, wouldn’t he have been out? The only other scenario should have been that he was hit by the pitch , which is what I believe, but then why was he not awarded a base?

It was questionable but honestly close enough to where Drew should've gotten the benefit of the doubt. Thing is if it happened to a ND kid we would all be on here talking about what a good call it was.
Umps call shouldnt effect the outcome of a big game, meaning it shouldnt be left to their discretion to oust anyone from game, lest it be for fighting. Too many inherent biases exist, reputation, personal opinion. Its a knee jerk reaction.

If disqualification is imminent, Ump should be required to yellow card or Tee someone up, as a warning. Second offense is disqualification from the match. Reg season who cares, but in a NCAA tourney, the punishment doesnt fit the crime.

Someone is going to need to kidnap Peyton and make sure he doesn’t make it to the game.

We laugh at this sh** every year like it’s a joke..but it’s beginning to not be funny because it seems like it’s reality.he really needs to stop coming.😂😂 he showed up last year to Omaha and our bats literally died…so Peyton!..please if you love this university don’t show up to big games.please 🙏🏽

Notre Dame’s game two starter will be their ace, lefty John Michael Bertrand. He began his college career as a walk-on at Furman and has become an all-american as a 5th year senior in South Bend. He doesn’t have elite stuff, but throws a low 90s fastball, a cutter to jam right-handed hitters, a 2-seamer that breaks away from right-handed hitters and a slider. Over the last two seasons, he’s thrown 25.2 innings in the NCAAT, giving 7 runs on 24 hits, while striking out 20 and walking 3.
But, as evidenced by our pitching, anyone can have an off day. We just need to come out focused and get base hits rather than swinging for the fences and play with a lead. GBO!

If the Campbell Camels can light up the SEC pitcher of the year, we can touch this fella up. Excited to see how we respond today
That depends on a lot of things. Is he is hanging pitches in bad spots like Dollander was...then yeah, but if he is on his game, we will have a tough row to hoe to win this game. The same holds true for ND though.

I hope our season doesn't end like this. Having our straw that stirs the drink thrown out for two games is a bad deal all the way around. I absolutely hate the powers that be.

Eh it could of gone either way to be honest.
Funny how all those 50/50 calls tend to go the other way. Also, it might explain Gilbert's outburst. Continuously screwed by the ump.

I firmly believe that the umps have been trying to provoke our players and coaches the last few games. Last week the everytime the ump called a strike against one of our players the ump would look over at TV with "what are you going to do about it" glare. Even to the point where TV yelled at him something to the coin of "what are you looking over here for? Ump the dam game."

The NCAA wants the season to end for the Vols. Very tough to go against the establishment. TV knows this and I've noticed he's not going for the bait as much as he has earlier in the year.

Lotta fans of other teams etching our gravestone last night and this morning. They're invested in our failure. Sure would be a shame to blast the vultures out of the sky today.
That is the downside of being the most hated team. If you don't win it all, then they will always get the last laugh.

Well hell fellas that sucked guess we're just gonna have to win this thing today and tomorow.I have full faith in the team pulling it out...I don't think these boys are ready to go home yet but it's gonna take a heck of an effort.

That was an interesting exchange last weekend.

Sorry…. It’s my pet peeve…. I work with my players against having that mind set all the time.
What kind of mind set is that: being irritated, frustrated, and downright pissed whenever an ump/official sucks at his job so much, it affects the game in a MAJOR way? That is NEVER supposed to happen, umpires and officials imposing themselves on that grand of a scale; yet...

The strike call that got Gilbert tossed was nowhere near even close, I don't give a damn if it was traveling 80, 100, or 10 mph. How is a batter/pitcher supposed to know where an ump's strike zone is, if it's constantly moving...especially if pitches are nowhere near close to being a strike? I understand mistakes and vantage points, human error...they're never going to be perfect; however, BE CONSISTENT. Yet, can't say a word about it.

Beast, I very much like and respect you as a poster, as you probably know; and, I agree, Gilbert should have known better, and should have never dropped an F bomb to the umps face...however, when is enough enough? He had already gotten fcked on his first at bat, and then that...and he's supposed to continue taking it, with no Vaseline??

I agree, Tidwell was not on yesterday, and we paid for it; however, maybe he would have been out of those innings if some of his balls had been called strikes...I can tell you, since you didn't even watch the game, many of his pitches were a hell of a lot closer than the called strike against Gilbert.

Again, for the most part, I agree with pretty much all you're saying...im just not going to continue repeating it over and over and over again...especially whenever something is as egregious as that bullsh!t yesterday.

Another example of many: Jared Dickey's check-swing strikeout. Yes, it was very close, close enough to have been called either way; however, I knew within a blink of an eye they were going to call it a strike, no question. I am FULLY CONVINCED that had it been a ND hitter, he would have gotten the call. Why? Evan Russell called on the 1st and 3rd base umpires multiple times yesterday for check swings, and never once got the call.

I commend you on coaching your players to keep a level head, keep focus whenever the calls aren't going your way; but, whenever those calls go beyond being "close", obvious...what to do then?

It just sucks that our starting pitching has killed us in the postseason.
We had a great Friday, Saturday and Sunday pitching rotation going at the start of the season. They were unbeatable with two freshmen in that rotation and then Tidwell comes back from his injury and gets one of the weekend starting spots and we haven't been the same since. I don't think I would have messed with that early starting rotation because, to me, the freshmen are better than Tidwell.

One thing about baseball, anyone can get hot in a short series---best two of three---and turn your lights out. We still have the best team in the country but we may not get the chance to prove it. Hopefully, we'll take the next two with our best pitchers and move on.

It’s not just baseball.
he has come to a lot of big games in football and mens and Womens basketball too.
seems like we lose them all when he’s in attendance.bad luck 🍀 charm. Lol.

That was Tidwell’s only bad outing. He pitched a shutout against Alabama State last weekend and pitched well in the SECT. Only had 36 innings going into this weekend, so his arm is fresh.
