Just a thought I had today... Auburn is going to have a mediocre at best QB, a WR corps where the leading receiver has like 300 career yards, an offensive line unchanged from last year that was awful, a head coach who's gonna have contractors coming in and taking measurements in his office all year... And Tank Bigsby.

How on earth did they convince that dude to come back just to look at stacked boxes and a poverty Oline? Still don't get it.
Yes you do! 😂

I won't ever have to make that decision with that amount of money, but DJ makes much more through sponsorships and other appearances than just the $75 million he has made on tour. How much is enough though? There is no doubt that he did the financial analysis, knowing that he was going to lose sponsors and other revenue streams. As you say, the origins of the money is suspect, but DJ also decided that the Ryder Cup and possibly other majors (undecided) were worth losing to grab the money. While it's easy for me to say I guess, but I believe life and experiences through events like the Ryder Cup are worth much more than the money.

I disagree a little about what it's worth making cuts. The money has grown exponentially in tour events through the years, and maybe DJ should send Tiger some of it for what he's done to raise those purses. But, these players in the LIV event don't have to do jack squat to make something. It incentivizes just showing up and not really competing. But, hey, I guess that's what we all want, right? Make the most by doing the least.
Can’t really disagree with any of that. Also, I’m not saying I think they don’t make enough money. I’m saying player money vs Tour money is one of the factors involved and I do think there is some validity to that concern. They should all be sending Tiger royalty checks.

So we have finished taking kids from the portal for this upcoming season correct, or is there still a chance to pick someone up late? Wouldn't hate another LB or seasoned RB for depth...

From that interview with Heupel that was quoted a few pages back, sounds like they are done and are happy with the roster.

Appearance money to play in golf tournaments overseas has been going on for years. I don't recall anybody vilifying Tiger Woods for doing it multiple times.

Tiger doesn't need the money. He is worth a billion (yes, with a B) dollars last time anyone talked about it.

Showing my ignorance on the topic, PGA tour members are only paid out of the tournament purse, right? And obviously private sponsorships, etc. But this LIV league is actually paying the tour members like a salary or contract? Is there a winning purse for their matches or is it just like exhibition?
They are supposed to have purses, but this 💩 ain't real golf..it's freakin stupid. So what if you win one of their stupid exhibition games...it ain't gonna count for 💩 to any real golf fan.

Your career is never going to be recognized as anything....but hey you'll have money to burn...so there is that..

I’ve already stated I would not accept the money, but we’re not talking about small differences. DJ will make roughly $50M more than his career PGA Tour winnings (~$75M) in ONE season. It’s not about having to make cuts to make money. It’s how much the players get when they do make a cut vs how much the Tour gets, media rights, and a bunch of other things. I don’t envy them. It’s easy for me to say I wouldn’t do it from here when there isn’t a $125M check with my name on it sitting on the table.

I would like to think I’d stay with the PGA but there are VERY FEW people in this world that know what it’s like to have a $125 million check sitting in front of them.

DJ has made around $200 million in his career. About $75 million in tournament winnings, $25 million in FedEx Cup winnings and $100 million in endorsements, etc. That is generational money. On top of that his wife, who is an absolute smokes show by the way, is Wayne Gretzkys daughter. So there’s money on that side too. So for him to chase the $125 million dollar check.. he just wants more money. Simple greed.

Now, a guy like Kevin Na I am less upset with. He has made $37 million in his career earnings. That’s nothing to laugh at. That’s A LOT of money. But say his LIV contract is for $50-75 million. He’s doubled and almost tripled his money in one contract, and it doesn’t matter if he wins. He sets up his family for even further generations to come. I still don’t like it, but I can understand the decision, to a degree at least.

Now, money aside, the main reason I hope I would say no in their position is because I want no part in Saudi sports-washing. Some of the things they have done as a country have been unforgivable and I would want my name no where near that.

Can't believe you're cheering for Arkansas....
Pulling for all the worse teams. This is about what's best for UT. Hatred for SEC foes comes second behind the success of our own team. It's all that matters.

At least Florida got knocked out. Everyone else failed. Freakin #2 Stanford and #3 Oregon St each won by ONE friggin run. Yuck

My (21 year old) brother asked me the other day why TN is always the villain in any sport. Or how we have such disproportional amount of game-altering officiating across all sports. I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

We aren't anymore irrational than Florida, LSU, Auburn, etc. And in my experiences at multiple SEC stadiums, arenas, fields we are significantly more friendly.

I think a lot of it is simply the fact that so many reporters are located in the state. When things are going well that works for us but when things go wrong it works against us. The rest of it - we've been a trainwreck without a leader that could tap things down. I think we're being treated far better with White at the helm because we finally have an AD after years of that spot being empty (and I maintain we haven't had an AD since Dickey until White came along).

The tournament set-up is crap for a game like baseball.
Yeah. It's like March Madness - crapshoot. But baseball has even more variance.

I'll also add to Oda's question - imo the regular season doesn't favor depth like the postseason quite does. So some #1 teams are just that because they're top heavy...win a lot of series 2-1 and win their midweek games. The postseason, especially Omaha, requires a special level of depth.

Jmo but THIS #1 team's specialty IS depth. We're custom made to break the #1 curse.

What makes pit's so dangerous is their strength. They can be good pets, but they're always dangerous because of that strength. If a chihuahua breaks bad, you might die from laughter, but it's not going to be able to tear you limb from limb or rip your throat out. But pits can be very sweet dogs.
And I'm sitting here reading the first few lines thinking you're talking about pit vipers and wondering how @nicksjuzunk hacked your account.

Hit the nail on the head. It's a money grab for those jumping. I can understand some of the average players who are playing LIV because they can make much more for themselves. But DJ has made millions, and it will be interesting to see where he can go from here. The Ryder Cup may look different.

Wasn't Norman initially involved in the World Golf Championship Series? He was trying to get away from the PGA Tour then. I guess he couldn't ever seal the deal in a bunch of high level tournaments, so he took his ball and wanted to go somewhere else.

How dare you have to make cuts and win to make money? I doubt LIV makes any money, but apparently the Saudis have an unlimited amount, so I guess they can spend it.

Yes - he tried to circumvent everything back then with the WCS. Finally got his way to some degree because the tour wanted to push for more international participation. They held off for a long time and he got pizzed off. Couldn't close the majors here so he tried to undermine them. Look what it all produced. It's down to a few money tournaments with participants from the world golf rankings. WGR's stink. How can you value tournaments on lesser tours the same or close as the PGA is beyond me. They play against far worse competition weekly. So American viewership is less because less of the better PGA Tour players get to compete.

Same deal with this except using SA money with an easier twist for the players. As already posted, SA is trying to buy some credibility back. There is zero doubt in my mind the bigger names know they are trending down and are just after the money because the gravy train will be ending soon for them. Biting the hand that fed them is never a good look. I'm out on all of them. Won't watch and don't care.

100%...🤬 em, I hope they rot.

What does this mean? Where did it originate?
Answered this last week - it is a "prayer/praise to the baseball gods".

Some say we made it up on our own. Other people say it's from a video game.

Luc seems to have his belly rub thing. Someone else said Ortega has his own celebration as well. But most of our guys use this one. Love it!

Yea, but those are once per year types of things with appearance fees maybe being a couple of million dollars. This is essentially an upfront fee to go join another circuit. I just don't see it as the same. Tiger has always been on the PGA Tour and as has been discussed, you can thank him for the progress in the big purses that are being paid now. But, sometimes, the sponsors of an overseas tournament want certain fields, so they provide incentives to get certain players there.

Sports washing is an accurate term IMO. So, what does it say about the guys willing to do it? I know what I think.

FTR, Na has been very public about the fact they he can only compete against the bombers on a handful of courses. He's 38. He will not have the opportunity to win many more. IMO the final straw for him was not getting chosen for the Ryder Cup team the last time. He had a decent case for being chosen and they went with other guys. His ego won't let him do the right thing, so he sold out to nasty for the money.

DJ's is a whole different dynamic. Bad boy in his early years with the women and drugs although he has matured a lot in recent years. Different type guy - not the guy the media has sold. Great golfer though. Money grab with him, pure and simple.
