War in Ukraine

They do have the means apparently. These Twitter, Reddit and Daily Kos links you guys provide are proving it. Plus all these Russian tanks are getting destroyed, generals being killed, and they can't even handle Ukrainian tractors. So it would just be a waste of our hard earned money.
It isn't your money comrade. Sad ruse is sad.

Also, the guys in here need to be thankful that we have a moderate Putin in charge and not one of the alleged hardliners floating around behind him running the show over there, because it sounds like Putin is getting some rumblings about not going hard enough in Ukraine.

It is interesting to see Medvedev transform into a strong hawk, or maybe he always was and kept it hidden.

If it was worked out beforehand you (and definitely Ras) would be whining about how it was a secret backroom deal orchestrated by the State Dept.
Let me save you the trouble. They would have been orchestrating it.

Now what does that have to do with anything? Does the State Department or US involvement in any way legitimatize or de-legitimize what is going on between Turkey and the Scandinavians right now? I'm not even sure why your State Department comment was made. Seems like a non sequitur...

True. Russia has created shovel ready jobs for all of them in Mariupol. I bet they are totally stoked at Pootins build back better after bombing initiative.

Turning Azovstal into a tourist destination. Like Disney without the grooming.

Anyone have the most recent count of how long it's been since our top level State Dept people have initiated discussions with Russian counterparts for peace talks?

Oh I forgot, we love a proxy war to bring Russia to it's knees and so what if "short term consequences" happen.
Just because it's not public doesn't mean there aren't any conversations going on. There was a lot of bachkchanneling gong on during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was bachkchanneling that led to the agreement that ended the crisis. It often happens even when nothing is going on.

Poor ba$tards. Their cocaine addicted actor of a President has already said they will be sacrificed. TO THE LAST UKRAINIAN!!!!

Good for Russia conquering a town the size of Murfreesboro, 54 miles from it's border after three months. No really, big ups to the orcs for pulling off this upset.

Clearly this is a huge victory for for the Russians. Perhaps they will have a new May Day Celebration to commemorate the momentous achievement.

Quick, show some old pics of tractors pulling tanks...amazing how the western narrative is always found to be opposite. It really has been one of the most predictive methods in this conflict.

Or, keep the $40 billion and just tell the UK and Poland to go in to Ukraine and end this mess. This is a European problem anyways, not one the US needs to concern itself with. They both should be able to handle the Ruskies outside of NATO Article 5 protections and wipe the floor with them.
That's exactly what the pack of hyenas in here said about UK and Poland. They suggested I listen and I agree. Let those 2 countries handle it since like you said they can wipe the floor with them.

Plus the Ukrainian tractors are running wild. Ukraine should just be able to get those tractors and push the Russians all the way to the Black Sea. Heck they could probably push them all the way to the Caspian Sea.

There is no diplomatic solution while Putin remains in power. He's too far in. If he pulls his forces out now, it looks like total defeat, and he looks weak. Everything we know about his character says that is not an option. So unless there's a coup, diplomacy is useless.

And no one is "letting" Ukrainians die. They're being murdered by an invading force. I don't think Russia bothered to ask the rest of the world if it was okay to launch an assault on their neighbor.

I'm not sure what kind of diplomacy you think is going to get Putin to pull his troops out.

You've concluded no diplomacy would work. Fine if that's your opinion but we aren't even trying. What's the downside of trying to find a way to end this? He may be looking for a way out but we aren't even having the discussions.

My reaction is driven by the comments I see here about how this our chance to neuter Russia or bring it to it's knees; that suggests a conscious interest in keeping the conflict going rather than trying to find a way to end it quickly.

The comment about letting Ukrainians die is based in this strategy of bringing Russia to it's knees - we are letting the Ukraine do the dirty work by supplying them just enough weapons to keep fighting rather than trying to find a way to end it. This is going to drag out and more and more Ukrainians will suffer as a result.

Hell, even if we keep throwing money and weapons at Ukraine that doesn't stop us from trying the diplomatic route in tandem but we aren't even trying. I suspect it is because the strategy is to let the Ukraine fight our proxy war so we can stick it to the Ruskies without putting boots on the ground.

They don't want to end this because they think this is all going to plan. Just as every other US misadventure was going to plan...until it wasn't. This has been years in the making.

It's become evident that Putin has pretty much clustered this whole thing from the start. His first mistake was putting trump in office. He had NO CLUE just how annoying trump would be. In the end he did wind up begging for Biden to come back. Even he needed the peace.

Now he's trying to maneuver groups of troops himself around the game board. The whole master plan turned into a car full of clowns.

By the way, this is the US/NATO cooking up something special in Ukraine...there isn't a better visual than this...
