Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Anybody noticed the NCAA has decided to wade into the NIL mess? The way it's being done (and I'm definitely including Tennessee here) is an abomination. I'm against what's going on, and at the same time loving it. Guys who go to college and want to play football or other sports should be able to participate as always; however, it should be strictly amateur - I even question athletic scholarships to some degree since supposedly you are there to earn an education and sports are secondary events. Anyway, it looks like time to get the popcorn out and watch the show now that the NCAA has screwed the pooch so badly and wants to correct.

To me it gets down to overzealous boosters and professional sports as the culprits. Professional sports are using universities as something like farm teams rather than supporting some kind of "growth camp" on their own which means NFL wannabees have to earn their spurs on college campuses. Boosters want those athletically gifted guys to see their team doing well, so there's always been buying of athletes, but when it gets really blatant people go nuts.

I am same boat. I wonderer if a lot of schools will give up football or split into NIL league and non NIL league.
I will say one thing,,,seeing 17-18 with such big money makes me nauseous and entitlement at such a young age will probably ruin the work ethic of many.

Saying that a player should get some reward if his name or picture are used in a game, on sports apparel, etc because he/she has "earned" it is one thing - think Olympians and Wheaties boxes. To basically buy the favors of HS kids who have yet to play a down of college football or participate in another sport is a whole different matter. Tennessee has jumped all over the wrong NIL implementation - but no differently than other schools; and it has really worked in our favor. That's what's leading me to enjoy what's happening even though I don't believe in it; it's fun watching the NCAA try to wiggle out of the mess it made. The writing was on the wall at least a year ago when Saban said his new QB had a seven figure deal as I recall. Funny thing Saban is saying he's against NIL the way it's done ... you have to suppose he doesn't like how it's leveling the field against Bama.

The NCAA clarifies that boosters – including recently created companies designed to provide athletes at a particular school with endorsement deals – should not have any contact with prospective college athletes, their family members or their representatives

A quote in the article I saw last night said the NCAA was looking at retroactive enforcement, and that would put Tennessee and Spyre right in the crosshairs ... with lots of company at other schools. Fun times ahead.

Funny enough my TPS light came on just a few miles away. Checked pressures and recalibrated TPS. Hopefully it works, cause this has been a PIA. Not sure if I have driven enough miles yet.
That bead noise on my old Continentals is gone now with Michelins.
I've grown accustomed to Michelins. They balance easily, stay balanced, wear evenly and I get a lot of mileage out of them

Gotta admit,..been a Michelin man since time I could afford. Due to some circumstance or whatever, those Continentals on my particular vehicle were excellent, other than that bizarre bead rub.
I am OCD when it comes time to my vehicle...I am thinking I need an alignment and balance again.

Mavis Tire I hate you!

Tecmo Super Bowl was the best though. I loved it at the time when all the teams were on the game. Still play it every now and then lol.

The Tom Chambers a dunk from almost the 3 point line.

Later on there was one of the NBA Live games that Eric Piatkowski of the Clippers would get hot from the 3 point line. It was a little known secret because he was not a starter and some guys that would play would never go to their bench.

On a more serious note Tom Chambers should be in the Hall of Fame.
I forgot about Tom Chambers in that game. Yeah, they made him like Jordan.
