Passion causes people to say stupid things in the heat of the moment...
I agree, but those people are not just like that on game day...they hardly say anything when we win...other than to bitch that we didn't win good enough...and they are always wanting to fire coaches and never shut up about it.

We have a pretty large (at least it seems that way) section of very loud, very corrosive fans...I stand by that statement. They make me wanna puke.

I disagree a little..there is a very loud and very toxic section of Vol "fans"...I don't know how truly large that section of the fanbase is though..🤷‍♂️

That is why I say so often that

"We are the best fanbase in sports..
We are the worst fanbase in sports.."

Both statements are true..
This^

I am not talking about hitting down...I am talking about swinging level, which is what I thought you said a couple of days ago that you were trying to get your kid to stop doing.

Misunderstanding...carry on.
I was talking about not swinging level originally but we are pretty close to agreeing on this…. The reason why a level swing doesn’t work is bc the ball is pitched at a downward slope… my son drops his hands and tries to force himself to swing level causing him to swing and hit the bottom of the ball or miss completely… Bat path is just swinging in the same path as the ball is pitched so you hit more of the ball with the sweet spot(barrel) of the bat.

We have the rep of being the most rabid fan base out there…. I wear it as a badge of owner.

I get why he feels that way, but it is what it is now. If Barnes ain't going to play the game, then he will have to go or the program is toast.

It is a really obtuse way of dealing with recruiting now...he might as well quit while he is ahead.

This is coming from one of his staunchest supporters to this point. We won't have elite teams recruiting like that going forward.
Part of me wonders if that's why Roy and K went ahead and retired. I'm certain they had athletes getting paid, but they didn't have to discuss it (and probably took every effort to avoid it for fear of sanctions) but now that they have to, more or less, openly discuss paying players and incoming recruits they just bowed out.

I sincerely hope Barnes doesn't decide to be stubborn here. You either have to work with the times, at least letting assistants and staff negotiate those prices, or bow out gracefully with a hall of fame career behind you. Otherwise, you're never going to build a team better than last year's, and this program is going to get leap frogged by the SEC programs that do. Then your stubbornness will get you fired/force-retired.

They make it so hard - it's just not worth it anymore. Basic player management practice in small markets; sell as your star players are near peak performance, not after that has already occurred. Sell for proven MLB ready prospects, not for has beens, wannabes and lower level prospects. They continue to do the exact opposite of that hoping to hit on enough blue light specials to keep people coming to GABP, while calling the same fan base out for being PO'd and skeptical. Buh-bye, losers.

It's just not that hard, but this bunch has never grasped the concept. They even sold out to analytics throughout the entire org two years ago without first building the farm up with prospects that match that method.

Dumb beyond words.
I'm hoping the Dave Stewart group planning a team to Nashville pans out just to have a local team to cheer. Baseball is such a great live sport to watch.

You're gonna end up making him think too much and screw him up. I get what your saying to a point. I was a good hitter and I was taught to swing level and to not take uppercut swings. I started doing that trying to murder the ball and went into a massive slump, just hitting pop-ups and foul balls all the time..when I didn't strike out. My coach got me fixed finally and I got back to hitting line drives all over the yard.

I think there are a few things that set us apart as a fan base. The Big Orange was really the closest thing Tennessee had to a pro team and or teams for ever. State pride along with Southern Pride has a lot to do with it because our roots run VERY deep. I don't know if we are more "Fanatic" than anybody else but I must say we are a loud boisterous group that when we are good we let you know and when we suck we fuss, fight, whine and complain but we never seem to lose sight of the fact we are ALL VOLS, we revel in the fact we are a little off center as a group but we're the kind you want on your side because we ain't going to run when things get tough.

Step toward the pitcher when he steps toward you and watch the ball hit the bat. That's all there is to it.
