RIP Twitter

Not sure what you mean here. Elon said he was going to push for less moderation of bird app, which would be like 4chan-lite. Or more like the Political Forum here, except you can swear.

it doesn't have to be like that. Also, this PF is nothing like 4chan-lite but is more tolerant of opposing viewpoints being posted than Twitter.

I don't see the issue with any of the ideas Musk has put forward.

Coke on...was Twitter bad say 5 years ago? Was it better yesterday?

I don't get the pushback here. I'm not complaining about how Twitter is going to change, I already said I really don't care, I barely use it. What I'm saying is that something that is going to be 4chan-lite means limited moderation. That fits the PF perfectly, I think; you have to post something really, really over the top to get it removed here (aside from cursing). It also fits what Elon has talked about with "absolutist free speech".

I'm not complaining about it, just noting how it is going to change.

the pushback is that less moderation =/= 4chan-lite and I don't think this forum is anything like a 4chan-lite.

I've always hated bird app, and Elon owning it will likely not change that opinion at all. It is a cesspit, and I will still hate it. Me and my like 150 tweet replies in 8 years will be staying on the platform though. (checked the number, it is actually 144)

I've been trying to tell some of my lefty friends they shouldn't run off from Twitter. If anything, this is the time to stay on the platform. If Elon decides to make it 4chan-lite, now is the time to be on just to watch the fireworks.

It's as if yall believe the head honcho political leanings taint the whole soup. If that's true, can you imagine how Rs have felt experiencing all the media dominated by lefties over the last 50+ years?

Isn't there a thread on here where Franklin posts the viewership of Fox News leading the country each night?

I'm not sure why you guys are coming at me for this. I don't care about the changes coming to Twitter. I barely use it. Nothing Elon has proposed to change Twitter will bother me at all, but I've been hanging out with you heathens for several years now, so this whole bird app switch to less moderation is a nothing burger to me.

I'm not coming at you - I was disagreeing with your view that it means it will turn into "x". I have a feeling that Twitter under Musk will become something unique and the accordingly the it will become this or that assessments seem to be backward looking to me. Even Dorsey sees that the future is undetermined but positive. I don't think he'd think that if he thought it would become just another less moderated board.

the identity verification will be interesting to see play out.

the benefit of being private is that proxy metrics like # of accounts and account growth can be ignored

I can't believe he'd spend as much as he did to just make it Twitter with less people banned or shadow banned. Given his other endeavors I assume he has bigger things in mind.

The life cycle of social media companies is short in the big picture of companies.

Okay, that's fair.

Pretty interesting break down of his plans.

I honestly think he has but off more than he can chew…

Why Elon Musk's Plans to 'Fix' Twitter Will Be Harder to Implement Than He Thinks

Same for electric cars, private space travel...

I'm betting on the jockey; not the people who see this as just a "fix a few things" approach.

I recall when the iPad was announced. It was panned by many of the experts - no one needs something between a phone and a laptop. They didn't see the vision of tablets. Maybe Musk doesn't have a vision for Twitter but that seems unlikely given he put up so much of his fortune for it. Maybe his vision won't work. That's more likely but the track record is strong. Just seems the criticisms are grounded in Twitter now vs what Twitter could be. As I said earlier - Dorsey seems to recognize there is untapped potential.

I don't have any problem with someone not allowing them to say those things on their privately owned platforms.

If you don’t have any problem with private companies NOT ALLOWING something then you shouldn’t have any problems with private companies ALLOWING something . It not a one way street correct ?

I troll them on here and Reddit, so there is that I guess. Sweep sweep sweep is always nice, especially when Gators are concerned.

I never liked the user interface of Twitter, or the character limit when I first used the app. After being involved in a few campaigns, one rather extensively I should admit lol, I very much thought bird app was **** because it wasn't what I was hearing or seeing on the ground. And surprise! That ended up being true. Twitter ain't real life. Especially Rose Twitter, well I'll leave it at that.
