Watched an interesting video on the comparisons between the Winter War and the Ukraine War (does this have a name yet?). Guy talking was saying the objectives for both sides were the same. Russia wanted to protect/guarentee access to a waterway and deny their future enemy access to certain border. In both wars the defenders victory conditions are similar too. Last long enough where continued Russian aggression isnt worth it. Maintain the illusion long enough where russia doesnt see a quick out via military actions.
In the Winter War the Finns lied to their people and the Russians about their losses and the strategic position they were in, maybe only two weeks more of fighting. Ukraine has definitely won the propaganda war and makes good use of the micro victories to keep a near constant celebration going so the tune of the PR never turns against them, despite otherwise real noticable losses. Hard to tell how they are really doing.
The differences are the support Ukraine gets vs what Finland got, and Ukraine is on slightly more equal terms with Russia than Finland was. Also Ukraine had 8 years between rounds of fighting to address military issues, so they may have started slightly better as well.
