Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

This Wesley Cobb person obviously does not know the history of Bama football. Why would they stop paying players now that they can do it legally? And how does he think Bama attracts players to that ****-hole that is Tuscaloosa?

You ever chit chat with ur casual weekend college football folks??It's insane how many ppl will argue with you that colleges dont pay players.Ive had to walk away from some conversations cause it just gets so Ludacris and especially with Bama fans you cant convince them otherwise. They think that all these kids come here cause Saban is some coaching savant and not for the stacks of cash.

Yep, I’ve had that happen just recently myself. I just had to tell one of my best friends (Bama) that he is one ignorant, naive, stupid SOB. Like arguing with a wall.

Dude MJ is 1000x better than Bird ever thought about.
@SugarCC with the perfect response. No way you can say MJ is 1000x anything. Listen to any superstar of the era and they all refer to Bird as the biggest challenge to guard. Also the most clutch shooter of all time, as well as having the ability to beat a team left handed because he was bored.

O/U how many idiots will say “fire Vitello” if we lose his first game back

Also- as you all know, my uncle who is a former UT baseball player from the mid 80s has stage IV liver and lung cancer. I’m willing to pay all expenses, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to make it easier to get him to the stadium for the super regionals (assuming we make it that far) because my dad keeps telling me it won’t be possible to get him through all that chaos. I’m just determined to get him to see that before he gets too sick and you’re the only people I know to ask for advice. Again, I’ll pay for anything necessary.

These pictures are four months apart.. first from family Christmas, second from family Easter.

Anyone have any connections or anything to offer that would make accessibility to the stadium easier? To be completely clear, I AM NOT asking for financial help. I just want help getting him into the stadium because he can hardly walk around the house as is. I sent this same plea to Swain as he is the only radio host in Knoxville I listen to frequently enough to know somewhat on a personal level, but I figure the people of VolNation know me far more than he does and know that I’m not exactly the type to ask for anything from any of you, ever. But this is very important to me.

Thank you and god bless.

I say get in contact with the athletic department. They could probably help you the most with logistics

Plenty of dudes in the gym this morning and this cat calls the 110 pound blonde over for the spot on bench press.

We all see what’s up bro 😂

Tale as old as time. The question is, did he pretend to struggle a little so she had to lean over to "help"?

Notes from this morning's Doug Matthews Big Orange Sunday. Note DM states he is a half full glass type person (some could say more like 3/4's though his perspective is informative).

Side note: Ball State night game marks 50th anniversary of first night game (1972 vs Penn State). Was a student and the game atmosphere was unique. Vols had beaten PSU 38-11 in 1971 and I had heard that Joe Pa stated the only way he would play the Vols again if it was a night game. DM said the contract called for the second game to be under the lights somewhere (neither Neyland nor PSU had lights at that time) so AD Woodruff installed lights during the summer and PSU had to return to Neyland which made Joe Pa unhappy . The 1972 team holds the NCAA record for most interceptions with 36 which is remarkable given the limited passing game in back then.

DM believes one reason Vols have been a .500 team is the failure to recruit the state effectively. Said CJH has made instate recruiting a priority and will recruit the state heavily as evidenced that 5 of 8 current commitments are from the state including the #1 player. Said mid-state is key given the population growth in the mid-state.

Spring Practice update: 14 positions have returning starters so looking for 8 positional starters: 2 wr's; 1 OT; 2 DT's; 1 LB; and 2 DB's.
- Wr's: J Hyatt and J Calloway are starters coming out of spring as both had impressive springs. Said J. Holliday has taken steps and will be the prime KR/PR. (interesting he didn't mention Keyton at all)
- OT: Jeremiah Crawford was running ahead of G. Mincey at end of spring but nothing decided. Thinks both can do the job. OL will be strong up the middle with Carvin, Spraggins and Mays. Have 7 maybe 8 good OL. Said 3 early enrollees have made strides especially Nichols and Grant. Early enrollees and rs freshmen will provide depth.
- DT's: Will rotate 5 -6 players during the game. Omari Thomas and Elijah Simmons are starters. Have no game changers but several very good players.
- LB: Major concern. No clear indication of a starter and only 2-3 lb's are physically SEC lb's. Depth is a problem.
- DB's : D. Slaughter will be a starter at either nickel or safety (interchangeable positions in DM's opinion) and the other corner is wide open. Said Warren Burrell is 1 cb starter (a concern imo). Have 8-9 players in the mix for the 5 positions

Depth: Mentioned CJH has a board with depth by position by eligibility. Currently 15 players have a covid year (doesn't count against eligibility). DM break down by position with 3 or more years of eligibility (includes early enrollees);
OL 9 ; wr 8; rb 5; TE 2; QB 1; DE 5; DT 5; DB 7. Didn't mention LB which shows the depth issue.

CJH is looking for difference makers in the portal (especially at DE and DB) and focus will be on LB's. One criteria is trying to get transfers who have 3 years or more of eligibility. Have open slots available in both 25 (current year) and 85 (total) . Didn't have any idea on NCAA investigation or scholarship reductions. (IF he did, I don't think he would mention it on his show as he would the university release a statement imo)

Baseball note: Had Alan Cockrell segment and he said players love playing for CTV. CTV has focused on pitching and recruiting good athletes to play in the field. 3 players are batting over 300 in league play and another 2 are over 280. Every player in the lineup can hit the ball. Team has an ERA of 2.01 which leads the nation and a WHIP of under 1 (unheard - his words). 4 or 5 guys are averaging a HR every 10 at bats in league play. The quality of starting pitching will benefit in regional and super regional play.

It’s a running joke starting with @OrngeJuiceJones that we’ve all embraced. Dudes aren’t over there fantasizing about actual penises so don’t over-project. It’s a great forum with a bunch of good people, just like this one. Bunch of knowledgeable fans and loyal baseball folk.
Then youre.... like... us?
Seriously good to know
If it was like the FF .....

Love the over 50 club one holding up each end of the olympic bar, 235 permanently affixed..each with giant gut, tiny legs...unable to move due to size of chest and arms.

Blonde walks by, conversation stops. There is silence, everyone forgets the City employee mandatory sexual harrassment training certificate they just earned.

Lol it’s the polar opposite of the FF. Bunch of loyal dudes (and ladies) who have suffered through 15 years of awful baseball. Not bandwagon armchair idiots that dominate the FF.
I'm be str8 with you. I thought baseball was boring and slow, I did get caught up in the HR roid period in the late 90's. And I've always hated the Yankees and get interested in pulling for their opponent that day

But this historic run, has changed my perspective and I now see, partially, what you've seen all along. And it is very exciting and fun. Its seriously won me over as a fan. But college is just so much more pure than pro, if less skilled across the board. But this team I'm sure, could take a couple MLB teams 2 out of 3

Thanks for letting us bandwagoners bandwagon
