Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Not sure how you missed the post that UM’s strategy was to blanket SV.
I think most teams strategy is to blanket the other teams good players…You guys call out KC on missed free throws where he routinely scores in double digits in those games but refuse to acknowledge Santi has had two terrible Ncaa performance that played a part in our early exit

KC missed a lot of free throws, but that’s not a very good comparison to slowing down SV as being the main focus of a defensive game plan. I think that most comments about KC’s bad free throw shooting were more about how odd it was and that he might need to sit at the end of close games because of it. At least that was my stance, so “you guys call out KC” is off target.

Not disputing that Vescovi had a tough game against Michigan nor am I disputing that UT was bad against Oregon State. However, Santi was not terrible at all against Oregon State, compared to his season stats. In 2020-2021 season, Santi averaged 8.7 ppg, shot 39% from field, and .373 on 3’s. Against Oregon St., he scored 11 points on 4-9 shooting, including 3-8 on three pointers.

I’ll admit to being wrong about last year he was okay in that game…

Texas and Texas Tech committed a big guard to run Santi off the line with success. After that, anyone who tried got burned on the backside. It’s a big risk to run a wing out every time. We had no answer because the whole team shot badly on the same night. Santi is fine. If he is our only offensive option, we have a bigger problem.

Are there any remaining power or combo forwards in the portal that are high on our list? If Collins joins our perimeter spots are set. JJJ can play the 4 at times but we need more size.

BHH could stretch the floor as well as Aidoo.

The real issue is you’re potentially going into the season with 3 post guys. 1 who has no business playing major minutes in the SEC due to limited athleticism but will play 20-25 here, another coming off injury who has a good midrange and outside shot but he’s extremely limited with post moves and the 3rd is a great talent but really raw with no post game to speak of. The last 2 are great shot blockers.

Fulky was the only guy we could occasionally dump it down low to and get a basket reliably. You also have to consider what happens if we have another unfortunate injury in the front court. Or what about foul trouble? You gotta have more bodies down there.
I do hope Tampa comes back just so we have another body. And BHH shot all of 15% from 3, not like he really stretched the floor. We started to be able to dump it in to ON before his injury. He was playing pretty darn good basketball, and is an actual threat from deep. We have 4 guys to play 2 positions with Jo, ON, Uros, and Aidoo. We have great guard and wing depth (assuming Collins is coming) so I don't see why we don't play small. Jo will still play some 3, but he's probably most effective at the 4.

ORN doesn't really have much of a back-to-the-basket post-game. Has a nice midrange and 3 point shot. And JJJ can play the 4 but he's still not banging inside and getting 2's. We really struggled with our 2 point % this past year because our bigs couldn't make layups and Chandler was the only guard getting to the rim. Need a banger who can actually convert easy layups and post touches. Fulky was the only one doing that and obvious he was really up and down all year.

Uros/BHH/Fulky/Aidoo
Oops, thanks, haha. My point was mainly that we stuck with a 3 big + JJJ rotation, which I think is still true for the most part (Aidoo didn’t get many minutes many times and when he did it was at the expense of one of the others). I agree with you that it would be nice to have one more depth guy at the very least for foul trouble. Uros is fine but he’s a matchup/role player
