Zelenskyy does his best to push Russia completely out of Ukraine including Crimea and Donbas. If he’s successful Putin goes nuclear as a last act of desperation and defiance. That is where this is headed if Ukraine wins.

That is certainly one path that I have considered. I would definitely launch a heavy counter offensive in Crimea and the Donbas if the next Russian assault in the east is successfully repelled.

Take as much resource rich land as they can, say it was their intended plan all along, and claim victory. They will create several new generations of young Ukrainians dreaming of revenge which will lead to indefinite conflict between the two nations. That is the endgame

First they have to take it. Then if they actually take it they have to hold it. The crown jewel in this whole effort is the deep water harbor and naval base in Sevastopol. If Russia loses that port they have no feasible year round naval port. Thus if Crimea actually goes in play Putin will go nuclear.

If he doesn’t shoot at us there is no reason for us to shoot back with nukes. I’d guess Kyiv gets nuked as a minimum. Then Putin thumbs his nose at NATO by nuking a member nation. But probably a patsy not somebody like Poland as they’d kick his ass and completely destroy Russia in response. After all Putin and Russia are nothing more than bullies and thugs with no real teeth (unless their nukes work better than everything else has thus far). So I think the ultimate level of escalation will be how NATO responds to the patsy member that Putin nukes.

Man let's pray to God Putin isn't insane enough to go nuclear. It just ends horribly for everyone. He has to know this, but if he's losing badly and thinks he'll be deposed (i.e. fall out a window), he might be like, "well, I guess I'll go out swinging".

I think that is exactly who he is as a man. A small, cowardly, paranoid man.

I would hope there are people and technologies in place that are much greater than any of us are aware of in terms combatting this move by him.

Agreed. To the average person, a failed incursion and attack against your neighboring country would fall well short of a legitimate consideration for deploying nukes. I just don’t know about this guy. What does the “win at all cost” scenario look like for him?

Yep. But the point is he’s already reached his nadir at that point and realized he’s lost everything thus he has nothing left to lose. Personally the only way I think we avoid this going nuclear is the professional officers in Russia’s military don’t execute those launch orders. However based on their Keystone Cops behavior thus far I can’t see how they have that intestinal fortitude.

He didn’t love his money and lifestyle enough to not invade Ukraine. That lifestyle you claim he loves he could have had for decades without taking any risk like he has now taken.
