So he could've pitched 1 game all season for 1 inning and allowed 1 run and have an ERA of 9 basically.
Or he could look up his actual stats and realize that he had given up 19 runs in 19 innings….. he was averaging less than 1 strikeout per inning at 15…. We really struggled against him but to move on and get ready for this weekend.

Some people are just terrible as umps. Doesn't mean they should be punched. I think every parent should have to umpire a game for other teams to see how hard it is. I have to call lines in volleyball all the time and when people complain about my calls I happily offer them the job. I've never had another person take it.
Again...the problem is the bent ones out there changing outcomes on purpose for one reason or another. It breeds suspicion and every honest official suffers for it...

Do you really think officiating in the SEC is above board?

I want to assure everyone, that even though the BaseVols dropped a game last night I am as committed as ever to having TV's baby. I know TV and the BaseVols will get back on track this weekend vs the gumps and the baby will be doing somersaults in celebration. I am considering a c-section though and would welcome any thoughts on the situation.
No C-section unless medically warranted.
Pay per view of the pregnancy and delivery will fund NIL forever…
It’s your duty. 🤠

I really liked what I heard from Coach Martinez and Christian Charles today. I especially recommend the Charles interview posted a page or so back in this thread. jmo.

The key thing from CWM was the culture and leadership in the room and, critical in my view, his noting the need for us to rotate 8-10 guys in the back end in order to stay at our best for the whole game. jmo.

In our game with Pitt last year we start by kicking off to the panthers. Our defense holds them to 3 and out on their first possession. They have to punt from their 12 yard line. The punt is blocked by true freshman Christian Charles and we get the ball on the Pitt 2-yard line. Jabari takes it into the endzone on our first offensive play.

Unfortunately, like a number of others, Christian missed several games last year due to injury but I think he could be a bright spot in our secondary this year. He was a HS QB that we're trying to convert to CB. We've had recent success in this process with Moseley, Thompson, and Taylor. I like our odds with Christian. jmo.

While our pass defense from last year is much maligned and statistically deserving so I’ve said a lot of that relative to others is probably somewhat influenced by the number of pass happy offenses we played last year, some of the best in the nation. We could end up seeing the same this year from various opponents but I think we’ll likely be much improved, owing to added training, experience, familiarity within the system, and hopefully more bodies. jmo.

Interestingly, and perhaps because we faced so many pass happy offenses, last year we were #1 in the SEC for passes broken up/game. We were second behind Georgia in Quarterback Hurries/Game. I think our pass rush could go nuclear this year with the guys we’ve got coming back and the young guys we’re adding, especially Pearce. jmo.

It's pretty clear imo

Sankey and SEC schools wanted to "join the party" and not be seen as the only regressive conference...and yet they added in this restrictive qualifier to still have some control over player movement. Ultimately, guys like Saban never wanted one iota of this. The schools would happily go back to when there were no transfers at all and players were held under lock and key.

They only gave in, at the bare minimum, to avoid the flak they've seen the NCAA take on for years. Ultimately, the schools (the members of the NCAA association) have always wanted full control and always will.
Chaos is bad..there has to be some kind of roster control.

If one has large volumes of data to support anomalies, then by all means. But general paranoia is what every fanbase has. EVERY. I mean the freakin UK fanbase has a website dedicated to showing how SEC refs are anti-Kentucky.

Jmo but you should atleast have hard evidence for such accusations. Otherwise, it's just a dime a dozen finger being pointed, as every fanbase in every sport on earth does.

Regardless, no amount of paranoia or skepticism can ever justify assault, verbal or physical, toward someone. It's just a form of entertainment at the end of the day. Build your case, make sure it's bulletproof, then present it for consideration. But throwing fists or bottles does nothing but scare away the good ones. It's a childish response that has no place in mere sport.

when Nico wore the Honco shirt:

This guy is inescapable:

Random:
Milton has to be one of the most frustrating QBs ever...it is baffling how such an obviously intelligent guy just completely vapor locks in real competition. It is obviously all in his head...if Heupel and Halzle could be the ones that finds the key that unlocks all that talent...records would fall.

Can't wait till robot umps become a thing.

Nobody will ever talk back to T-1000.
You and your f'n robots..AI is going to destroy humanity according to many futurists..and you can't wait for it..

Edit: That is obviously not what I believe is going to happen since I believe in Jesus, but for you guys that are unbelievers, it seems you would be more...uhmm..wary of AI.

Two reasonable people can have a discussion.

But 100,000 can't. And then suddenly bottles, golf balls, el tri batteries, etc become the pathetic norm. And then it's excused. Unless it's South American refs...who get killed right there on the field.

Jmo but it should be zero tolerance for all verbal or physical assaults. It is a freakin game and it's ridiculously childish. Society needs to grow up.
There needs to be real severe accountability for umps...period. We have been screwed over so many times by these bent MFers that you have to be blund and stupid not to see it...that is where the anger comes from...officials having godlike powers and no real accountability for horrible horrible decisions that completely f over players and fans.

😂😅 cmon man. It is software built upon sensors, motion, detection collision, machine learning, etc...like self driving cars...don't think self-driving cars are going to overthrow humanity 😉

There's a huuuge gap between this and true AI, which yes every futurist is properly wary of. Asimov was one of the first and he immediately pointed his noggin thoughts toward the cautionary perspective.

But to take the AI cautionary perspective and turn it into a strawman argument against all things even remotely adjacent (even less than adjacent) does no one any good. If we can find a significantly safer way to operate our vehicles or a significantly better way to ref our sports, then why not?

I agree from the outside looking in; but if you really, truly believe someone is intentionally screwing you out of a fair game after years and years of training and dedication, it's not a stretch to see how some people would think violence against officials is justified. I've absolutely had the impulse to punch a ref before, and in the moment I believed I would be 100% right for doing so.

Somewhat related, transparency and accountability (of the public variety) in the officiating business would go a long way toward avoiding this kind of confrontation. When officials/conferences NEVER admit to missing a call publicly, it makes it a lot harder for people of simpler minds to vilify them. If coaches/players/fans knew there was a reckoning coming in the form of public acknowledgment of fault, they'd be less likely to take "justice" into their own hands.

If the (for instance) SEC office had a report every week of calls that were blown on Saturday and were transparent about how they're working to get better about it, people would be a lot more forgiving and think of the officials as fellow humans who make mistakes just like we do. They'd also know for sure that the official will be held accountable instead of knowing in their mind that there's no repercussions for this guy who's absolutely screwing them over right now. Always claiming to be right (or seeming to claim that by never admitting fault) makes it easier to hate them, and less stable minds can more easily justify violence against them.

I will say it again, but the conference is partly to blame for what happened against Ole Miss. Sure, what some people did was childish and unacceptable, but if you truly want to analyze the situation, the conference plays a hand by trotting out the same guys who make mistakes. If you don’t hold them accountable and put out a bad product, then you are part of the problem. It was only a matter of time that something like that happened, and it ended up at UT.

This discussion can go down a rabbit hole. But there are lessons to be learned by holding people accountable, too.
Bingo...a guy that makes several horrible calls that screws teams over should be fired immediately and never step on SEC field again...and it should be public.

Crews that use offensive and defensive Holding calls, and personal foul calls to control outcomes should all be fired...it is obvious when it happens.

If you think officiating is not biased towards favorites in the SEC...then you are blind. I don't care about stupid UK idiots.

They absolutely 100% depend on people like you to keep getting away with this garbage. We have been bent over so many times over the last twenty years that at this point you have to be purposefully doing the ostritch maneuver to not acknowledge it.

I know it sucks to think that there is a certain "fixed" quality to sports...you'd like to believe that you get a fair shake, but I just can not believe that anymore. In certain games...you can almost predict exactly what is going to happen.

Some of those arrogant bent crooks deserve to get their ass whipped.

My question is if "great" or perfect refs actually even exist or are they a figment of our imagination...like hiring the perfect coach. The NFL has awful reffing too (just ask Saints fans) and those are supposed to be the best in the world. But they'll make mistakes. Tons of them. That's human reffing for you. So what expectation do we have for refs? Are they realistic considering human limitations to perceiving movement?

I think fans will always be mad at refs. Every league, every sport, every nation. They'll never be perfect or even close. That doesn't prove bias or cheating though either. Large scale reviews would do such and afaik most major sports all take ref reviews seriously...it is vital to the image of every league after all.
