Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

I think some of it has to do with the age-old "best available" vs "biggest need" argument. Sometimes when a guy is available, and he's that good, you have to take a shot. I wouldn't say we have a ton of positions of need, but we can stand to get better at every position.

Agreed on the scholarship reduction. That's also why I can accept us adding guys that aren't necessarily all-conference. We still need bodies.
No doubt, we need depth. But I'm still a little salty because I don't think my point at the time was correctly understood. I'll get over it. But Callhan is basically saying what I was saying then.

If you win 65% of your games in MLB, you're in the playoffs and probably the favorite to win the World Series. What Tennessee is doing in baseball is unheard of and it can't be sustained for the entire season. Just enjoy what we've already achieved and hope we can make it to Omaha.
We could win 50% of the remaining SEC games, going 9-9, and finish with a conference record of 21-9. In 2021 that would have been good enough for 2nd in the SEC.

Arkansas's conference record last season was 22-8, ours 20-10.

At 12-0 we are 4 games ahead of Georgia and Arkansas at 8-4.

All-Time SEC conference records:
2013 Vandy went 26-3
2000 South Carolina went 25-5
1994 Tennessee went 24-5

All-Time Season records:
2013 LSU went 57-11
2002 South Carolina went 57-18
1997 LSU went 57-13

Best TN season was 54-16 in 1995

If we go 50% conference and win our non-conf slate, we'd finish the regular season 45-11. Before playing SEC tournament or regionals, supers, CWS. That's how good the start of this season has been, is that we could be that mediocre to end the season and still have incredible stats and break records in post-season.

I read that article (or was it a book?) about rapist from Penn State. Totally unbelievable how many people dropped the ball on stopping him!
It kinda makes you wonder if anything like that is still going on at Penn State. Papa Joe was a bad man and had the win at all cost attitude. Everything was covered up from the bottom to the top and even included Judges and politicians. The closest thing to Penn State was what happened at Baylor during Briles time there. Judges and politicians were involved in their cover up also.

Two reasonable people can have a discussion.

But 100,000 can't. And then suddenly bottles, golf balls, el tri batteries, etc become the pathetic norm. And then it's excused. Unless it's South American refs...who get killed right there on the field.

Jmo but it should be zero tolerance for all verbal or physical assaults. It is a freakin game and it's ridiculously childish. Society needs to grow up.

I will say it again, but the conference is partly to blame for what happened against Ole Miss. Sure, what some people did was childish and unacceptable, but if you truly want to analyze the situation, the conference plays a hand by trotting out the same guys who make mistakes. If you don’t hold them accountable and put out a bad product, then you are part of the problem. It was only a matter of time that something like that happened, and it ended up at UT.

This discussion can go down a rabbit hole. But there are lessons to be learned by holding people accountable, too.

@SugarCC

Not looking to restart the argument, but this is what I was saying after the season. Maybe people will understand and accept it better coming from Callahan.

And ftr, I'm still hoping to be wrong and see a couple of more good players hit the portal that we might snag.

What is it with these coaches/parents? I witnessed a coach going after a ref and then the opposing coach…

In a 11-12 year old girls bball rec league.

The world is going to Hell one sporting event at a time. The next thing you know, mustard bottles will be thrown.
Sorry! I lost my cool. It shouldn't happen again. Give me a break. It was a terrible call though.

Found it really upsetting. No one wanted to deal with him. Not even his parents.

This goes way beyond sports. It's our sick society. Just look at all the crap that's going on with airline passengers in mid flight. It's just crazy. In general, a certain number of people in our society are just plain ole nuts. Doesn't matter what the venue is, some people are ready to throw down
I wonder why...😏

You should have seen the meltdowns from so called fans in the baseball forum last season when we lost two straight in Omaha. I mean, it was freaking Omaha and people were bitching about how much of a choke job it was. The BB forum regulars were disappointed but they understand the game. It's the bandwagon numbnuts who drive me to drink.
I really do hate them just about as much as I hate rival fans...in a lot of ways worse, because the corrosive idiot fans we have across our whole fanbase are part of the problem, not the solution. I can just imagine the dumb 🦬💩 they have been saying last night and today.

I want competitive winning teams that are fun to watch and easy to root for. Championships are just not the be-all end-all to me anymore. The humiliation of the last two decades across all sports has beat that out of me.

If we put consistently tough, competitive teams out there...championships will come.

The thing that bothers me about last night's game is the pitcher that owned us came into the game with like an ERA of 9.
SMH...you don't know much about baseball do you? It happens....it just doesn't happen as much to good teams, but it even happens to the greatest offensive teams of all time.

If I had a choice between going to play a round at local Muni, beer provided and golf cart also and say, working id prob play golf. Maybe. I also consider golf a massive waste of time ans boring as ****.
