War in Ukraine

If this were the French attacking Ukraine the response would be the same.

Nah, Ukraine would have "asked for it". Why? because that is what we would have told the world to support our friends the French.

There are multiple wars going on right now. 5 of them that over 10k people died in the past year. Besides Ukraine and Afghanistan, I guarantee you nobody on this board can name the other 3 without looking at List of ongoing armed conflicts - Wikipedia

Notice there are almost FIFTY wars going on right now and have been for decades some of them. 300K people have died so far in Yemen and nobody gives a crap because they are killed by our buddies in Saudi Arabia and UAE. Over half a million people have died between Somali and Kenya but nobody cares because, seriously, its Africa.

So please spare us the self-righteousness. We, people in the "cheap" seats only care about this one because we have been told to by those who have a vested interest in it.

That doesnt mean decent people dont care when presented with the horrors that are happening every day around the world. They do. But in your busy schedule, you just dont have time to think about any of them more than what the media flashlight wants you to think about for today.

Your initial response (about how we would side with France) is completely wrong. The rest of your post didn’t counter his point at all.

Because we have a long history of loving the French. GTFO. And everything else isn't relevant.

Not because we love them to be sure but because they are a significant ally. Again, note Saudi Arabia. Note that the French have screwed up untold numbers of former colonies. But really, none of these are analogous because they do not share a significant border with the state they would try to invade. If they did, yes, we would support them.

For something more analogous, consider the Catalan region and the Spanish government's response so far. They voted heavily to go independent and the Spanish gov sent out shock troops to beat them down and crushed protest. Only Covid has stopped momentum for a bit. Lets say because Spain's economy melted down, some how the Catalan became independent like they clearly want to be. A few years pass and there becomes armed conflict with the Spanish government trying to foment uprisings. China and Russia sense opportunity so they back the breakaway republic and push to give it full independence. You can be sure if Spain all of a sudden invaded it militarily to take it back, the EU and thus the USA might be very supportive.

Are you intentionally ignoring the obvious difference between Ukraine and Russia and Spain and Catalonia?

Haven't seen official confirmation but apparently the Poles are sending over their old T-72s after the Abrams deal.

That's the way it should be. Ukrainians don't have time to learn complex new stuff. They need simple and weapons they already know. There'll be time to learn and train on better stuff once they beat some Russian butt back to their own turf.

Another good thread on the make-up of the "Ukrainian" forces...more evidence of this being nothing more than a proxy war with Russia.

In other words Ukraine should have had a huge standing army and spent fortunes on weapons because they live next door to Russia? This is one of the perils of society; you spend little on defense and live in hope and fear, or spend what you need to prepare for the worst case. Freedom has seemingly never come cheap as the world is being reminded. Then there is another option that spreads cost - that of alliances like NATO.

What is your point in those Tweets linked? That Ukraine needs help against a superior for, gosh that is shocking but what you are really trying to imply is that it’s a force of genocide loving Nazis who are simply there to murder “ethnic” Russians. When are you going to rejoin reality?

The ironic part in all this would be why ethnic Russians are living in Ukraine if they want to be Russian. They should have packed it up and gone home when the USSR folded.

I really dont get the Russian hate. Are most of these posters boomers who lived through the cold war? I mean I am in my early 40s but I guess I missed the "hate Russia" programming.

Really? You missed the Cold War? You missed all the meddling the Soviet Union (basically Russia) did around the globe - all the **** they stirred? They had a good chance to be decent neighbors when their nonsensical political scheme collapsed, and they didn't take it. Russia deserves all the bad stuff they have coming their way ... and more.

Candidly, Russia reached out after the cold war and could have become an ally. They were rebuffed repeatedly. That was our miss both on Clinton and on GWB. Then Putin decided that old ways are best, A shame really but now it is the way it is and has been for quite some time. Certainly, Russia deserves a solid ass beating for much meddling over the last 20 years.

Preemptively threatening the west with nuclear war just might have a little something to do with it?

I don't think you missed the love mother Russia programming.

I have no love for Russia. Although, I can see how compared to the absolute hate most of you on this board have for them, how some of you wrongly conclude I have a "love for Russia".

I just dont see them as an enemy and considering how resource rich they are I dont understand the need to bend over backwards to make them one...especially when we are doing so to prop up a corrupt Ukrainian regime. It makes zero sense.

I agree, its absurd most of you are cheering on a group who hides behind women and children and has no problem with Nazi ideology in their ranks...but here we are.
Yes, a country that has people living in it has civilians in it, thanks Sherlock. If the russians were worried about civilian lives they wouldnt have invaded in the first place. Did you really think they could fight a war in Ukraine, and not have civilians in the way?
