Yes I'd rather fight the Russians in Ukraine then in a NATO country. If the Ukrainians, with Western weapons, are able and willing to bloody and defeat the Russian Army I'm happy. It will take another two or three decades for them to rebuild the military enough to threaten NATO and the West again with the losses they are suffering.

That said, I was reminded by a conversation with a precocious 10yo on the fallout of WW1 being WW2 and how each action seemingly independent, led to something else. I am sure many people were happy with the fall of the Romanov dynasty at the time but the vacuum permitted the Bolsheviks to come to power and that, with all its implications for the spread of Marxism, led to more misery and death than almost any other action in the last 100 years.

It is often difficult to tell how the war has truly gone until long after the smoke clears.
