It’s been a lot nicer on one side of the tunnel than the other for a while now..

Oh for sure. There's a reason why the family I had in Middlesboro is all but gone (either dead or moved out of KY) but the family I had in Harrogate is still there, although as with many small East, TN areas a lot made their way to either Knoxville or one of the smaller cities. But I'd argue that it's always been harder on the KY side of the tunnel. Claiborne and Bell have a ton in common and both had elements of rougher past but Bell Co, like much of Eastern, KY is just so much harder.
