Yeah, also not trying to be controversial or stereotype, but I understand it more when I see it’s a player who doesn’t have the greatest father in the world. But it seems like almost every player’s primary reason for committing to a school is because of an assistant coach, and I'm sure many of them have great dads. Just seems like that would be lower on my priority list if I were a sought after high school/college athlete. Maybe I underestimate how many of these guys have crappy home situations, and should stop typing before I type something that be construed as insensitive, as that’s not what I’m tryna do

I don’t think Barnes will start JJJ at the 4, I think he liked bringing that lineup in later against backups and after the guys have had some run. Because of that, I don’t know if Murray starts even if he comes. Would also like to see Aidoo take a step and start ahead of Uros, and that’s said as one who recognizes Uros brings some value, but of course there’s a ceiling there

Georgetown’s Hail Mary of hiring the LSU assistant and hoping he can bring the entire LSU roster with him might pay off. We’ll see. It’s Ewing’s last shot.

I definitely get the pull for Murray, but I hope he is smarter than this. Ewing cannot coach a lick. It’s essentially career suicide if he has any desire to get drafted or improve his play at the very least…

Well this phrasing (“strong, *strong* hunch”) makes it seem like a done deal to me*. That’s unfortunate

*one could also interpret it as a play on the “strong a** offer” thing, implying dirty play, but that’s not likely and teams don’t need to cheat anymore with NIL anyway

I’m not sure what sources Torres has. He’s always seemed like more of an analyst than an “insider” but I read this the same way you did. It came across as him implying he has some source that is telling him it’s a done deal.

It’s about 90% chance that’s where he goes…from the area and Georgetown just hired the assistant that recruited him to LSU.

Murray will visit Knoxville today, staff doesn’t feel confident but gonna take a swing…presuming they miss they will almost certainly add Key.

I’m not going to be torn up about Murray either. I’m personally not sold on adding Key. I think there could be better uses of that roster spot, but I guess it ultimately depends on what they do with the other two spots whether it’s worth the gamble or not.

I'm on the fence with Key, honestly, especially coming off of a shoulder injury. He has a lot of "old man YMCA" to his game that I'm not sure how it translates to the SEC. To me, there is a significant difference in athleticism between Murray and Key, and Murray has proven his athleticism at the SEC level. Both have awkward-looking perimeter shots, but it seems to work. The additional 3 years of eligibility is a plus to me, as well.

I'm not sure anyone is arguing for Key over Murray, but to me, there is a significant drop-off from Murray to Key, so like you, I'm not entirely comfortable with Key being the consolation prize if Murray ultimately chooses Georgetown.

I think in terms of productivity/on-court contributions there is certainly a chance he ends up not being able to add much. Not for sure that he can't but that is a possibility. I think part of the appeal to the coach staff is that from a culture standpoint he is exactly what they look for. He is a fantastic young man who lives in the gym and will contribute in whatever way the staff asks him to. I would assume that is where some of the appeal comes from for the coaching staff.

You pretty much translated my exact thoughts to paper, so I'll try to not be redundant, but I totally agree. The surgery alone is enough cause for concern, but I'm not confident in how his ability will translate from the MVC to the SEC. I get that the one-year of eligibility is probably attractive to Barnes, but playing time at the 1 through 3 is already going to be at a premium next year, and I just wonder if his game will be worth the minutes. You summed it up nicely, but ultimately I'm always going to be a bit concerned about the competition difference from transfers of smaller conferences when I'd rather take the proven commodity.

Yeah...to me at least this is the new additions you walk away from feeling pretty good about things.

2 spots - HS: BJ Edwards & Julian Phillips (class rank would jump from 75 to 34 with average player rating of .9693)
2 spots - PG Yuri Collins & SG Bradon Murray

Also not sold on Key as a replacement to Murray...with him missing last year he'd be entering year 6 in college coming off a shoulder surgery that put him out an entire season. We'd then only have him & Yuri for that one season. Would prefer the additional eligibility Murray would have since after next season we're likely already losing Santi & JJJ from the guard group.

Perhaps the players interested understand that the role would be a potentially minimal one, so that will only attract certain types of players currently. Mid-floor, high-ish ceiling players that have an asterisk (meaning that surgery, not character) that could "out play" what other programs think they can still do are worth that spot.

Not sure I'm wording my thoughts properly here. I can try to clarify when I'm on lunch later.

West case Key isn’t productive and is what, your 10-11 man? Best case is it translates and no injury after effects and he’s your 7-8 man? I don’t think he changes the outlook much, and speaking of next years team I’m not sure Murray would either presuming you land PG. Obviously difference is that Murray would have a few years but you’d also have that spot for 2023 to add someone too.

Yuri, Santi & JJJ would all technically have another year if they chose to use it…also Murray isn’t as much of a guard like those guys as he is a smaller forward/3.
