Depends on how serious you want to get. How old is your boy? I can check with my professor and see if he recommends anyone there. See if Knoxville has a “Checkmat” affiliated school.Anybody do jujitsu in the Knoxville area? Me and my little boy are looking to get into it
I’m not sure how serious we want to get right now. I’d like to feel it out and see. What is checkmat? He is 7 years old.Depends on how serious you want to get. How old is your boy? Knox has some decent fighters, former Vol OSP and Scott Hotsauce Holtzman both still fight out of Knoxville IIRC
Meet Mr. Les ClaypoolOf these four: guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin...I'd choose to be the master of whichever one would make it most likely that I could be at least pretty good at the other three. I love all of them.
But piano and drums are very solid choices, too. I'd be happy if I could play any of them.
@WarMachine that stuff on Cliff Burton was good. I had no idea a bass could be shredded on like that.
There’s a place close to me in Clinton that is a judo/jujitsu school. I’m going to see if we can watch a class. I’m open to other suggestions thoughTennessee Taekwondo Judo Center. Not sure they do jujitsu

Inside the city, there's really only two large schools. Laban (my instructor) and Samual Braga at Gracie Barra.I’m not sure how serious we want to get right now. I’d like to feel it out and see. What is checkmat? He is 7 years old.
What do you mean by informal/traditional? They all use gis, right?Inside the city, there's really only two large schools. Laban (my instructor) and Samual Braga at Gracie Barra.
I don't care for Samuel. But without inserting bias, I would tell you that if you are looking for more of an informal type of class that is taught more like a wrestling class than a martial arts class try Laban's. If you want more of the traditional martial arts feel, they are all about that stuff at GB.
Best gym in the areaAnybody do jujitsu in the Knoxville area? Me and my little boy are looking to get into it
Yes. If you're familiar with karate/ TKD, Gracie Barra schools are similar in that they do a lot of the formal martial arts stuff. Bowing into class, bowing out of class, very structured. What do you mean by informal/traditional? They all use gis, right?
Oh I got ya! I haven’t even thought about that. Something to consider.Yes. If you're familiar with karate/ TKD, Gracie Barra schools are similar in that they do a lot of the formal martial arts stuff. Bowing into class, bowing out of class, very structured.
Our school is more of the American BJJ approach where we just don't do nearly as much of the martial arts formalities.
With adults it doesn't make much of a difference. But the kids programs are pretty different. GB is closer to a karate class. Laban's is closer to a kids wrestling class. Just in terms of style, not content. It's the same techniques and stuff either way. If that doesn't mean anything to you, then just disregard and check them both out if you can lol.
