If Portugal would have lost and a couple other dominos would have fallen, plus if we won against CR then we could have been in Pot 1. So we were somewhat close but still a fairly long shot.

Best case scenario would be to draw Qatar from Pot 1. After that just hope we don’t get drawn a UEFA pot 3/4 team. A team like Wales, or Scotland could cause us lots of problems. Both are good teams that just got beat by better teams and were then sent into the playoff scenario.

No fewer than 6 per day (combining the two). Some days it's north of a dozen per day...just depends on what we're working on.

I have daily team meetings though and am lucky if I have JUST that meeting throughout the day.

They aren’t terrible, I agree, but the US team that played against Qatar in the Gold Cup was missing most of our starters. We basically beat them with our B/C team.

Italy choked. Big time. They drew twice against Switzerland, which isn’t a terrible result. The Swiss are 16th in the FIFA rankings, Italy 6th. You would still expect them to win one of those two at least, and if they would have, they would advanced without needing a playoff. Where they blew it the most was they also drew against Bulgaria (68th) and Northern Ireland (45th). Win one of those 4 games and Italy is in but they didn’t and so they ended up having to go to the playoff with the Swiss winning the group. Anything can happen in a playoff… and it did. They got upset.
